Kate Middleton Has Her Own Direct Line To The Queen In Order To "Check In On Her"

Jun 22, 2021

Over the years, the royal family has shown many times just how close they are with one another and how much they truly love and care for each other. While the family has definitely had its fair share of ups and downs along the way, they are still a pretty tight-knit group who are there for one another when needed. The year 2021 brought some hardships and uncertainties within the family, but they have also had much to celebrate together. In fact, the Duchess of Cambridge and Queen Elizabeth II have built even further on their already strong bond.

During some of the more challenging times during the past year, the two have found new ways to bond and to continue to grow their relationship. Both Kate and the Queen have taken on their own responsibilities and have also worked together to better their family and the Commonwealth. They have also worked on finding new ways to communicate with each other and navigate the world around them as the world shifted into a new sense of normalcy during 2020 and 2021.

While the Queen has shown her personal affection for and approval of Kate Middleton in the past, she took it a step further in January 2021. Kate was given her own direct phone line to the Queen to call and ask her any questions she had, especially when needing advice with regards to raising her three beautiful children, who are all in line for succession for the throne. This helped keep the family close during times they were not physically able to be with one another.

On Jan. 27, 2021, the Mirror reported that the Duchess of Cambridge was given her very own direct line to the Queen for times when she needed help or advice and to give updates on her three children, Prince George, Princess Charlotte and Prince Louis. According to the Mirror, the two have a very strong relationship as Kate has worked extremely hard at balancing her roles within the family and treating the Queen with respect to her own roles and responsibilities as head of the entire family and great-grandmother to the Duchess of Cambridge's children.

Royal author and editor Duncan Larcombe stated that Kate would regularly call the Monarch to check on her, especially during the more challenging times of the recent year, according to the Mirror. In fact, the duchess was actually the one who showed the Queen how to use newer technology like video calls so they could keep in touch more easily and more frequently with not just each other but also with the rest of the royal family.

"Kate has her own direct line to speak to the Queen and she calls her to check in on her and give her updates on the children," Larcombe told OK! Magazine. "She always leans on her for advice." He has been a close confidant to the family as he worked for The Sun Newspaper for more than ten years and even wrote a book giving exclusives about Prince Harry and his life titled "Prince Harry: The Inside Story."

Their Budding Relationship

Larcombe also explained how they relied heavily on phone calls and video calls to communicate during the pandemic since they were not able to see each other in person as much as they usually would have. "It's believed Kate was the one to teach the Queen how to use Zoom and that's been lovely, so she can see her great-grandkids and stay connected," Larcombe continued. Teaching the Queen how to become more tech-savvy has helped her with her day-to-day duties as head of the royal family, as she has also had to carry out her charity engagements virtually.

Kate married into the royal family when she and Prince William got married in April 2011. Since then, the duchess has been the epitome of grace and elegance with everything she does, from her sense of style to her royal engagements and outings. The Mirror reported that she has also supported multiple charities and causes, such as children's development and mental health. Kate has also traveled the Commonwealth on the Queen's behalf. The two women have even attended royal outings and engagements together over the past ten years.

According to the Mirror, the Queen has shown a very clear liking toward the Duchess of Cambridge and even presented Kate with a Dame Grand Cross of the Royal Victorian Order (RVO) in 2019. This is the highest seal of approval one can receive from the Queen. This is not the first time the Queen has given out this award, as the Duchess of Cornwall received the same honor in 2012.
