Mar 28, 2022

Kate Hudson is an extremely talented woman that comes from a family full of talented individuals. She is best known for her work as an actress but also has her own fitness brand, proving that she is a great businesswoman, too. On top of that, Hudson has earned countless awards and is continuing to make her mark in the entertainment industry.

Hudson was born on Apr. 19, 1979, in Los Angeles, California. She is the daughter of the legendary actress Goldie Hawn and actor Bill Hudson. Although her biological parents didn't stay together, Hudson has a beautiful, blended family thanks to Hawn's long-lasting relationship with fellow actor Kurt Russell.

Hudson made her film debut in 1998 with the drama "Desert Blue," followed by plenty of supporting roles in the following years. It wasn't long before she began landing roles that helped make her the leading actress she is today, including films such as "Almost Famous," "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days," "You, Me and Dupree," and "Bride Wars." It's clear that Hudson has a knack for comedy, especially romantic comedies, as she is hilariously charming and witty.

Nowadays, Hudson is still busy in the entertainment industry but is also busy raising her children. She is a mom of three children and has frequently spoken out about her parenting and co-parenting style. Her oldest son Ryder is now 18 years old and is growing up to be extremely handsome. Read on to find out more about Hudson's beautiful blended family and what her relationship with her children is really like.

Her Famous Family

Hudson has been a pivotal figure in the entertainment industry since the late 1990s, proving that she has a plethora of talents and has plenty of drive and ambition to make all of her dreams a reality. Growing up with famous parents, she learned a lot about the business early on. It's clear that talent runs in the family – even one as blended as Hudson's – since almost everyone in her immediate and extended family has found themselves with a career in the entertainment industry.

Hudson's famous mother is none other than Hawn. She is a beaming ray of sunshine in Hollywood with her stunning blonde hair and effortless beauty. Hawn moved to Los Angeles when she was about 19 years old. Following her move, she didn't go unnoticed for long, and soon she was seen as an "It" girl of the 1960s.

After she worked in television for a few years, she switched to movies, with one of her first roles in the 1969 film "Cactus Flower," which earned her an Oscar win for Best Supporting Actress. This set her career in motion, and by her mid-20s, Hawn had already begun to make her name in Hollywood.

Over the next few decades, her filmography would grow to include all kinds of films, but her specialty was in comedy. She was also nominated one more time for an Oscar in 1981 for "Private Benjamin," but lost. Other well-known roles of hers include "Shampoo," "Overboard," "Bird on a Wire," "Death Becomes Her," "The First Wives Club," "The Out-of-Towners," "The Banger Sisters," and many more.

Following In Their Footsteps

While Hawn's career is one that many people would be extremely proud of, people are even more invested in Hawn's long-lasting relationship with Russell. Their adorable and loving partnership is the sweetest, with the obvious affection they have for each other more akin to a group of teenage sweethearts than a couple that's been together for close to 40 years!

Russell is also an actor, best known for his earlier work from the 1960s to 1980s, although he is still busy in the industry today. Russell had many roles on a few different ABC series throughout the start of his career, ultimately leading him to work with a partnering network.

He signed a 10-year contract with The Walt Disney Company in 1966, taking his career to the next level. While working with the popular company, he continued to get work in films and television shows through other networks. Russell went on to work with director John Carpenter on a series of projects during the 1980s and also made his return to Disney to provide his voice for the animated movie "The Fox and the Hound" in 1981.

Almost the entire Hudson-Russell family is now famous and has shown off their incredible skills in the acting department, as well as some other creative avenues. Hudson's brother Oliver is also an actor and has been in the TV series "Nashville" and "Scream Queens." Wyatt is yet another actor in the family and has starred in the Disney+ series "The Falcon and the Winter Soldier." He was also a hockey player.

An Established Career

Hudson is a well-established actress, having starred in plenty of films, including "Almost Famous," "You, Me and Dupree," and "Bride Wars." She also starred in "How to Lose a Guy in 10 Days" and "Fool's Gold" alongside Matthew McConaughey. Speaking with Entertainment Tonight in 2021, McConaughey said that he would love to work with Hudson again sometime in the future. "She's fun to work with!" he exclaimed. "She's fun, she's rock and roll."

On top of being a great actress, Hudson is also a businesswoman and launched her own fitness brand called Fabletics in 2013. The company specializes in activewear and operates on a membership model.

After finding plenty of fame and success, it's not surprising that Hudson has built an empire for herself. According to Celebrity Net Worth, the actress has an estimated net worth of $80 million. She paid $5.4 million for a home in the Pacific Palisades neighborhood in Los Angeles back in 2003 and paid $5.3 million for the home next door eight years later. However, she is not just using all of that money on herself and her lifestyle. Instead, Hudson has also been sure to do her part in giving back to others.

Hawn started The Goldie Hawn Foundation, which helps children focus on education by providing emotional and social learning programs to aid along the way. The main program associated with this foundation is called MindUP. According to the MindUP website, the program is based in neuroscience and works to give "children the knowledge and tools they need to manage stress, regulate emotions and face the challenges of the 21st century with optimism, resilience and compassion."

As well as sitting on the board of directors of MindUP, Hudson has also worked as an ambassador for WildAid, a foundation dedicated to protecting wildlife and reducing the demand for what animals can provide. The foundation has a list of celebrity ambassadors who work to raise awareness through their personal platforms as well as professional campaigns. Hudson also supports Last Chance for Animals, another organization dedicated to helping animals, and Donate Life America. Donate Life America is dedicated to finding donors and helping people get the transplants they need.

While Hudson has received plenty of praise over the years for her accomplishments, she has also received some backlash. Speaking with CNBC in 2021, Hudson talked about what it was like growing up with famous parents and how people don't give her enough credit for everything that she's done in her career.

Hudson said:

"My personality profile is perfect for an overachiever based on my family of origin. We grew up privileged, but our parents made sure we understood it. It was like, 'Hey kids, none of this belongs to you. You didn't earn any of this. You were just born into it.' So at a really young age, our parents were all about work ethic."

That work ethic stayed with Hudson as she did her best to make a name for herself in multiple industries. "The drive and the fire started in me being a self-sustaining woman," she explained. "I can't rely on anybody, so I'm going to rely on myself. And I'm going to succeed and I'm going to work my butt off."

Searching For Love

In her personal life, Hudson has experienced some ups and downs, specifically in the relationship department. However, she has learned how to co-parent extremely well with her ex-partners. Hudson was first married to The Black Crowes' frontman Chris Robinson. They tied the knot on Dec. 31, 2000, in Aspen, Colorado, and welcomed their son Ryder in January 2004. At first, they were able to keep up with each other's busy schedules but ultimately filed for divorce in 2006, with the divorce being finalized the following year.

After Hudson split up with Robinson in 2007, the two co-parented Ryder amicably. She said on the podcast "Divorce Sucks! With Laura Wasser" in March 2019:

"When you get divorced, you're still in a relationship. It's just a different kind of relationship. You're going to have good days, you're going to have bad days, you're going to have good weeks, bad weeks."

In 2010, Hudson began dating another musician – Muse frontman Matt Bellamy. They got engaged the following year in April and welcomed their son Bingham that July. However, they announced that they were splitting up at the end of 2014 but have remained on good terms, working together as co-parents.

Just two years later, Hudson had her first date with Danny Fujikawa, a musician, actor and record company co-owner. They had known each other for years beforehand and finally made the transition from friends to partners. On Oct. 2, 2018, she gave birth to her first daughter and her first child with Fujikawa named Rani. Hudson and Fujikawa have been engaged since Sept. 13, 2021.

A Dedicated Mom

Hudson is clearly a proud mom of her three children as she regularly uploads photographs of them to her Instagram account. Nowadays, her oldest child Ryder is 18 years old and growing up to be a very handsome young man. Like his mom, Ryder also enjoys uploading plenty of photographs to his Instagram account, showing off his amazing family, friends and fun adventures he goes on.

On top of that, Ryder is also currently dating the daughter of another famous set of parents. According to Hello! Magazine, Ryder is dating Iris Apatow, daughter of Judd Apatow and Leslie Mann. Many fans were ecstatic to see the two together and marveled at just how sweet their relationship seems to be, and left plenty of supportive comments on Ryder's Instagram. "So cute," one fan wrote. Another said, "This makes me so happy."

On an even more important note, Hudson approved. She simply commented on a photograph of Ryder and Iris, "Sweets," and added a double heart emoji. For the most part, Ryder has kept a relatively low profile aside from his Instagram page, although he still rarely posts on the platform.

Hudson and Ryder always had a close relationship since Hudson was so young and still learning so much about parenting when she had him. She explained, "I was really young, like 23, when I had Ryder. So, our relationship has always been (a little unusual). I mean, we're close, and I am his mom. I'm big on manners. I'm big on politeness. I'm big on gratitude. But I'm a bit of a wild mom."

Ryder's Future

Plenty of fans were excited to see Ryder and get to know more about him when he walked a red carpet premiere alongside Hudson. According to PEOPLE, the mother-son duo attended the Stella McCartney x The Beatles: Get Back collection launch together back in November 2021 alongside Hawn. Hudson wore a Stella McCartney lace-embellished sequin outfit dressed up with a black blazer while Ryder sported a crewneck sweatshirt with a silver chain, standard trousers and a pair of Converse sneakers.

In September 2021, Hudson talked more about her adorable relationship with Ryder, specifically about how much of a kick she gets out of her son's sense of humor. According to PEOPLE, Ryder really enjoys imitating his famous mom by mock-promoting her fitness brand.

"I mean, he's also deeply funny," Hudson said. She also explained how she already saw a bright future for her son. "Ryder – I mean, he clearly is gonna probably follow in the footsteps of the family," Hudson added. "And I would say he's probably the funniest in our family. So, this is like every day for me. Nobody makes me laugh like Ryder, and he just constantly makes fun of me."

It's clear that Hudson grew up with a very unique yet amazing family life, and she is now passing on her wisdom and talents to her children, especially her oldest child Ryder. Even though Ryder has not officially entered the entertainment industry career-wise just yet, his mother and fans have high hopes that he one day will. We can't wait to see what's in store for Ryder and his future!
