Julia Roberts Shares Heartwarming Throwback Photo To Celebrate Her Twins Growing Up
Dec 06, 2022
Julia Roberts has been one of the top leading ladies in Hollywood for over four decades since she starred in the 1990 film "Pretty Woman." Her decades-spanning career has brought her numerous accolades for her acting, including an Academy Award and three Golden Globes. Roberts' films have brought in box office grossing of over $3.9 billion globally when counting all of her movies.
Roberts won her Academy Award for her titular role in the film "Erin Brockovich" in 2000. Some of her other popular films include "Steel Magnolias," "My Best Friend's Wedding" and "Ocean's Eleven." She has also been voted the most beautiful woman in the world five times by PEOPLE magazine.
But despite her megastar status, the actress does her best to keep herself and her family away from the public eye. In keeping with her private nature, Roberts didn't marry another celebrity; instead, she married cinematographer Daniel Moder in 2002. The couple met on the set of the movie "The Mexican," where Moder had been a cameraman and Roberts the leading lady. Together the couple has three children — twins Phinnaeus and Hazel, 18, and a son named Henry, 15.
For the most part, the couple's children have stayed out of the spotlight, but in a rare and unexpected appearance, 16-year-old Hazel accompanied her father to the Cannes Film Festival in France in July 2021, where she made her red carpet debut. Moder was there to promote the movie "Flag Day," on which he was the cinematographer, and Sean Penn was the director. Now, to celebrate the twins' 18th birthday, Roberts has shared a sweet throwback pic on Instagram.
The daughter of one-time actors and playwrights, Julia Roberts grew up in the world of the performing arts. Her parents owned an acting school in Georgia, where they taught many students, including the children of Dr. Martin Luther King Jr. Dr. King was so grateful for the lessons that he paid for the hospital bills when Roberts was born.
Roberts has not spoken out much about her childhood, but According to Irish Mirror, she did say: "I have very strong opinions about things, and I have a young (half) sister who is a product of my mother's second marriage, and out of respect for her and my mom, I don't think it's really fair." Roberts' half-sister, Nancy Motes, passed away from an apparent drug overdose in 2014.
Roberts is still acting; her most recent project is a film titled "Ticket to Paradise," which was released in September 2022. Despite having a busy schedule, the actress is great at balancing her work and family life, making time to be there for her three children whenever she can.
In an interview with Harper's Bazaar, the actress shared how she chooses her roles. "I just wait to see what comes along, as opposed to looking for it," said Roberts. "It makes it fun and organic." However, she adds, "there's an almost unfair bar that a script has to attain for me to say 'I'm going to pack everything up for this.'"
In 2018, Roberts sat down with Oprah Winfrey and discussed if her children knew she was famous.

The movie star answered, "I don't think they will ever have a true sense of that. I think I told you once when they were starting to figure it out, it was like, 'You're famous?' And I said, 'I think a lot of people might have seen the movie that I'm in or might know who I am.' Maybe an hour goes by. 'Are you more famous than Taylor Swift?'"
Oprah also asked if Roberts was adjusting well to raising teenagers. "It's different than when I might have said to my mom, 'Mom, you don't know what it's like to be a teenager today,' even though she probably did. Danny and I really don't know what it's like to be a teenager today," the actress explained.
Roberts made her Instagram debut in 2018 and looked to one of her famous friends for advice. Roberts said, "It's definitely a balancing act, and it's been tricky figuring out what to post because I am private, but I am also friendly. I know that Sarah Jessica Parker, who is a friend and a person I really admire, has an incredible Instagram. She has conversations with people." Roberts’ Instagram account is now filled with photos of herself and topics that are important to her.
One of these posts is a throwback picture featuring her holding her twin children when they were babies. The sweet and heartwarming pic showed Roberts smiling at the camera while she cradles the two newborns close.
It was simply captioned "17 of the Sweetest years of life ✨ 👫♥️🥳. 🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂🎂" and anybody can clearly see the deep love she feels for her children.
Speaking with PEOPLE magazine in 2017, Roberts talked about how much she was enjoying watching her three children grow up. She shared:
“Young people today are so smart and they have the world in their hands in a way that I think, when I was 20 or 25, it didn’t exist. (Before), to be a global citizen meant something much more limiting, like a backpack and a train ticket. And now you can be home and be a global citizen. It’s really quite astounding and incredible.”
Even though seeing her kids grow older has been exciting for Roberts, she couldn’t help but reflect on all the fun times taking her kids back to school shopping. She shared, “It’s so fun!” Roberts continued, “I always loved back-to-school shopping, and I realize that I still love it. But what we really love to shop for is all the stuff — the binders, the pencils, the pencil case, the lunch box.”
No matter how old her kids get, it’s evident that they will always be Roberts’ babies. So, for her twins’ 18th birthday, Roberts went to her Instagram account to share yet another adorable photograph. On Nov. 28, 2022, Roberts posted a photograph of herself with Hazel and Phinnaeus when they were just babies. The rare photo represented a much different time from today, but it’s clear that Roberts has always had a great amount of love for her kids and has always given them as much attention as possible.
The actress captioned the post: “🌟🌟18🌟🌟 Love you.”
We can’t wait to see what’s in store for Phinnaeus and Hazel’s future!
