Judge Judy Gets A Standing Ovation For Her Moving Speech At The Daytime Emmy Awards
May 09, 2019
There are not many TV stars out there whose larger-than-life onscreen persona matches that which they have in real life. The feisty and spirited Judge Judy is one of those stars. Because of that magnetic personality and successful TV show, the Daytime Emmys recently honored her with a Lifetime Achievement award to the roaring applause of everyone in the star-studded audience.
Judge Judy Sheindlin has been a fixture on daytime television for decades and has already amassed several awards for herself and her show. But it was the special nature of the Lifetime Achievement award that sent the audience into a standing ovation. Her award was given to her by Amy Poehler who got the sweet title of Judy's 'new BFF.' Judy approached the stage in a professional pantsuit rather than her iconic black robe and lace collar, and a brand new ponytail hairstyle that replaced her signature bob.

We all know from her TV show that Judy is a skilled speaker but her acceptance speech was at another level. She moved the audience with an anecdote from her law school days and shared,
'I was greeted by a faculty professor and the first thing he said to me was, "Young lady, why are you taking the seat of a man who is going to use his law degree as a profession?" So, the moral of the story is, you challenge a kid from Brooklyn at your peril.'
She also recognized the fact that she was a busy and successful working mom, acknowledging her family of five children, thirteen grandchildren, and her husband of several decades, Jerry Sheindlin. She was able to have it all: a big, happy family, and be a star in a successful 23 season and counting TV show.
She said it all when she said,
'I have a profession that’s always been my passion and tonight I have this lovely honor, which says I’ve done my job well.'
