John Stamos Sent ‘Full House’ Fans Into An Emotional, Nostalgic Daze In Rare Throwback Cast Video

Aug 16, 2023

The sitcom "Full House" was a huge success in the late '80s and early '90s, and it propelled many of its stars to fame. Among them was John Stamos, who played the hunky Uncle Jesse, a surefire drawcard for women everywhere. Other notable actors included Ashley and Mary-Kate Olsen, young girls at the time, who played the singular role of Michelle Tanner, while Stamos' close friend Bob Saget also became very well known.

The show would run for eight years, airing from 1987 to 1995, but to the delight of fans, it wouldn't be the last the world would see of "Full House," when two decades later, in 2015, Netflix announced they would be reviving the show. The reboot adapted the name slightly to "Fuller House" and was released in 2016.

Despite the fact that the Olsen twins didn't reprise their role as Michelle Tanner, the rest of the cast all returned as regular characters or guest roles. "Fuller House" aired for five seasons to mixed reviews. However, many of the original actors on the show got thrown into their respective controversies, which affected the reception of the reboot.

Saget, Dave Coulier, Candace Cameron Bure, Stamos, Jodie Sweetin, and Lori Loughlin all returned for the reboot, but when Netflix canceled the show eventually, many of the actors went into disarray and have been a broken family since.

Stamos, specifically, has been known to be completely fond of his memories on the show, treating longtime fans with never-before-heard anecdotes, revelations, and even throwback videos and photos of the cast. Keep on reading to learn more about what the cast has been doing today and how Stamos commemorates the memory of the iconic ensemble of actors.

Sadly, some of the key actors of “Full House” didn’t fare well with life after the series ruled the airwaves.

In 2020, Loughlin was sentenced to two months in prison after being involved in a nationwide college bribery and fraud scandal. Aside from the prison time she served, she was also fined $150,000 upon her supervised release and had to undergo one hundred hours of community service. Her husband, on the other hand, was jailed for five months and served 250 hours of community service along with a fine.

According to a Radar Online insider close to Stamos, who is a “get-along kind of guy,” the actor reportedly had “a hard time watching his TV family unravel before the public.”

When Cameron Bure and Sweetin had a public spat about their opposing views on the LGBTQ community, Stamos remained mum as he allegedly did not want to get in between his two dear co-stars.

"Johny loves Candace but he caught a lot of crap for defending Lori," the insider revealed. “John has always wanted everything to be perfect for his TV family. He's devastated it's turned upside down.”

Saget’s death also impacted the cast heavily. Saget passed away in January 2022 after a brain bleed caused by a traumatic brain injury.

"It's hard sometimes Bob without you, but we'll try. We'll keep loving and will keep hugging just like you want us to. I can't believe it's been a year, time flies when you're grieving I guess,” Stamos said in a tribute to Saget’s tragic death.

Stamos was obviously very attached to the show and his castmates. But little did many know that he initially “hated” the show because the storyline was different from what he envisioned.

"It was sort of pitched to me as Bosom Buddies with a couple of kids in the background. And as we're casting I was like, 'They're spending a lot of time casting these kids that are going to be in the background.’,” Stamos told “Hot Ones.”

Thankfully, Stamos took that leap of faith and landed the role. Perhaps if it weren’t for him, the show would have been different.

On Aug. 12, 2023, Stamos shared a video on Instagram, which was shot on Aug. 15, 1994, that showcased the entire cast of “Full House” as they seemed to pose for a photo for promotional material. Other snippets of the nostalgic video also show the cast having fun in between takes.

“The essence of a family isn’t defined by its shape, size or color. Family is where you find belonging and connection, and just know, you’ll always be part of ours. #IfYouWouldHaveToldMe,” he captioned the video.

Fans of the show expressed their longing to see the complete cast of their “comfort show.”

“Seeing Bob…ngl made me tear up. Gonna give this show a rewatch soon ❤️,” a fan wrote.

“One of my favorite shows growing up. This choked me up. I was the same age as Candace. She had the best hair. 😂,” someone commented.

"I just cried like I've never cried before," another said

“I wasn’t ready to break down into full tears today but here we are,” another commented.

The emotional montage was a promotional tool for Stamos to promote his 2023 book, “If You Would Have Told Me,” which would cover his major career milestones, including “Full House.”
