Unbeknownst to many, Teigen has always been open about her difficult pregnancy to the media. In fact, their first two children were conceived artificially via in vitro fertilization (IVF). Luna, now 7, and Miles, now 5.

Sadly, as they began trying to conceive with a third one, they were met with an unfortunate ordeal. Teigen first announced the tragic news that the couple had lost their baby on Instagram on October 2020, alongside black-and-white photos of the couple in a hospital room. While expecting their third child, a boy that they'd already named Jack, Teigen experienced complications while giving birth, and the baby didn't make it.

Teigen revealed in a heartfelt essay published by Medium that doctors had diagnosed her with partial placenta abruption. Her diagnosis meant she had been on bed rest for over a month prior, with the goal of getting Jack to the 28-week mark, when she could then safely deliver him early.

However, she was eventually admitted to the hospital with excessive bleeding. Although doctors had given her "bags and bags of blood transfusions," they were ultimately "never able to stop the bleeding."

As the couple moved on from the death of their third kid, Teigen made sure she remembered her kid as she had the name Jack inked on her wrist. On January 2023, Teigen gave birth to their third child and second daughter, Esti Maxine, who was conceived by IVF again. Six months later, they had their fourth child and second son, Wren Alexander, who was born via a surrogate mother.

In an Instagram post that she uploaded on Jun. 29, 2023, Teigen detailed how the journey of motherhood for her started when she was still young.

"For as long as I can remember, I've always wanted four children. As a little girl, 2 glow worms and 2 cabbage patch dolls were perpetually in my arms, helping me stir in my pretend kitchen, watching Alf with me," she recalled.

In the same post, Teigen recalled how after her son Jack died, she thought of giving up, but after therapy, she approached Legend and thought of trying again, which turned out to be successful. At the same time, they met Alexandra.

"I knew she was a perfect match for us the moment we spoke to her," Teigen wrote. "We want to say thank you for this incredible gift you have given us, Alexandra."

However, things didn't seem to work at first because the first embryos didn't survive, but with Alexandra's patience and determination, the next one came to be.

"Not wanting to rush the process, we took a breath and... were just patient. I laid around, enjoying the first trimester of my pregnancy, with of course a little bit of fear that isn't any different from any other expecting couple. As we crept toward the safe zone of my own pregnancy, we were overjoyed to learn Alexandra became pregnant with a little boy. Our little boy," Teigen went on to say as she shared photos of their new son, Wren Alexander.

Born on Jun. 19, 2023, Teigen shared a carousel of photos of her new son with her and Legend, one with her kissing Alexandra's baby bump, and finally, a sleeping photo of Wren with her cute little baby hair all up.
