Jimmy Carter was admitted to the hospital to treat a urinary tract infection over the holiday weekend.
The former president is reportedly “feeling better” and “looks forward to returning home soon” according to a statement published by the Carter Center. The statement was released on December 2 on both their website and Twitter, and also states that President Carter is being treated at Phoebe Sumter Medical Center in his home state of Georgia.

The latest stint in the hospital follows a sequence of unfortunate injuries and illnesses over the past few months that President Carter has experienced. The active 95-year-old had fallen in October, resulting in a pelvic fracture, and went through surgery in November for a subdural hematoma, according to the Carter Center’s statements.
Touching messages and best wishes have been written by Twitter users in response to the Carter Center’s news. The statement additionally says that staffers will issue a statement when the president is released from the hospital in order to recover at home.
