Jessica Alba Discloses The Most Difficult Hurdles She's Faced During Motherhood

Apr 24, 2023

Ever since the early 2000s, Jessica Alba has been an incredibly well-loved actress in Hollywood. Not only is she absolutely gorgeous, but she's known for being a total sweetheart, too — it's no wonder the world fell in love with her after she catapulted to fame on the series "Dark Angel."

Following her time on the show, she dominated Hollywood with starring roles in movies "Honey," "Fantastic Four," and "Sin City," among many others. But beyond acting, Alba has also proven herself to be a savvy entrepreneur after she started her brand, The Honest Company, in 2011. It specializes in baby, personal, and household products, and by 2015 the company received a massive valuation of $1.7 billion.

But beyond her successful professional endeavors, Alba also has a rich family life. Married to her husband Cash Warren, the couple has three children together — Honor Marie, 14, Haven Garner, 11, and Hayes, 5. Warren had also worked in the movie industry — in fact, the pair met while Alba filmed "Fantastic Four" when Warren worked for the director. Warren is also no stranger to being an entrepreneur, as he started his own brand with friends in 2012.

Besides juggling her entrepreneurial activities, working in Hollywood, and raising a family of five, Alba, like any other mother out there, is experiencing difficulty, especially in adapting to the growing changes of her children.

In an exclusive interview with SheKnows, Alba revealed perhaps the greatest parenthood challenge she had ever faced – even likening motherhood and family life to a "big guessing game." Read on to find out what Alba is struggling with and how she plans to overcome it.

Since eloping together in 2008, Alba and Warren have worked together to raise their three children with good morals. This includes "setting boundaries and routines" and teaching their kids about giving back. They even get their kids involved in their business – teaching them the value of hard work and perseverance.

But Alba admits she is not a perfect mother. In an exclusive interview with SheKnows, the mother of 3 confessed that she is also struggling, especially with the greatest challenge of parenting to her – learning what the kids want.

"It's just how rapidly the kids grow and how quickly what they need from you changes. Almost weekly, daily. And for me, it's showing up for each one of them in the way that they need me to in that moment. That's kind of hard because they're all in such different places in their lives," she revealed.

Alba is aware that when her kids were little, it was just a matter of cuddling and nurturing them. However, as they grew up, she realized that their needs got more "nuanced."

"Every day it's sort of different. They're growing, living, evolving beings, so yeah, it definitely changes," she continued.

Aside from raising them, she also admits the fact that she also has her own responsibilities – working in entertainment, her own business, and even her own friendships. But despite this, Alba emphasized that it is simply "tough" to just show up "authentically" with exactly what her children need most of the time.

But the actress is honest to herself that she does not always get it right: "I, at least, set the bar that I'm not perfect. And I'm a work in progress, just like they are. And they can cut me some slack when I don't always get it right."
