Sep 03, 2019
After more than 50 years together, it is clear that Ann-Margret and Roger Smith were an ideal couple. Smith passed away on the year of their 52nd anniversary and was an ideal husband, and later manager, to Ann-Margret for the duration of their half-century relationship.
The iconic Hollywood couple married in 1967 after a whirlwind romance. According to People magazine, Ann-Margret knew that Roger was the one for her after just their third date. The two eloped to Las Vegas to make it official.
It was not how Ann-Margaret had always envisioned her wedding to be like. A room full of cigarette smoke is not the most romantic setting but it did not matter to the couple who were determined to make it work.

Life has not always been easy for the power couple. In 1972, Ann-Margaret nearly died after falling from a 22-foot platform. Eight years later, Roger was diagnosed with a serious nerve-and-muscle disorder called myasthenia gravis which he succumbed to in 2017 reports USA Today. Despite all of the bumps in the road, the couple stuck it out and managed to make their marriage even stronger.
Ann-Margret credits the ability to laugh through the hard times as part of the reason that the two were so strong together. She also said that the pair remained committed and involved in the success of their relationship. Prior to meeting Roger, Ann-Margret was best known for her relationship with Elvis Presley. Some people believe that Ann-Margaret is the only woman that Elvis ever truly loved.
