The photo shows a nurse who cared for the tiny patient, and wanted to keep the little one at ease during the healing process. The black and white photos appeared in print in a 1977 Albany Medical Center publication, so the caring nurse and Amanda's plight would never become forgotten.
Unfortunately, the images did not come with corresponding captions identifying the nurse. Amanda always wondered who the kind nurse was. Apparently, local officials in Albany could not be of any help. After decades pass, records do become misplaced, lost, or destroyed. However, Amanda never lost hope that she would one day meet the nurse who cared for her.

Today, thankfully, social media exists. Connecting with others online could lead to discoveries that would otherwise be impossible. Amanda tried her luck by posting the black and white images on Facebook. She hoped to receive a response. Likely, she felt shocked when a reply identifying the nurse as then 21-year-old Susan Berger arrived.
After 38 years, Amanda finally learned who gave her comforting care after an incident that nearly took her life. The two reunited on a television show in a heartwarming moment. According to CBC, Susan Berger noted in an interview that she only recently started working as a nurse when the horrible situation with Amanda occurred. Susan felt greatly moved and wanted to do her best to care for the poor baby girl.
