Who doesn’t love the whimsical sparkle of summer fireflies dancing in the green grass as twilight approaches? The sight of fireflies is somehow still magical, even as our childhood has long since been left behind. Fireflies are universally beautiful or, at least, appreciated by all. There’s something about the dazzling little lights of these creatures that make us all feel like a little kid again, even if just for a moment or two.
This summer, fireflies in Gatlinburg, Tennessee will light up the skies in a way that rivals even the best Independence Day firework show. If you think you’ve seen it all, think again!
There are truly such things as synchronous fireless, sparkling with their summer glow in unison. It may sound too incredible to be true, but a limited number of visitors to the Great Smoky Mountains National Park will be able to see these synchronous fireflies dance in unison this summer.

Nestled between the state borders of Tennessee and North Carolina, swarms of synchronous fireflies will dance the twilight hour away from May 30th-June 6th. Swarms of fireflies will gather together to flash their body bulbs in sync, turning the entire forest into a glowing nightlight.
Many people who have been lucky enough to see these fireflies flare have described it like watching thousands of sparkling stars shooting in unison. The fireflies have also been said to be nature’s own little firework show.
Gatlinburg’s Elkmont Campground is the home of the biggest group of synchronous fireflies in North America. The campground in the foothills of the Great Smoky Mountains National Park is considered the prime-time viewing spot to see the famed fireflies dance together in the forest.
However, due to overcrowding in previous years, every evening at dusk only 1,000 lucky individuals will be able to get prime seats. It’s truly a once-in-a-lifetime spectacle and one of nature’s gorgeous phenomenon that can’t help but have us stop in our tracks to witness such an amazing event.
