Homeless Man Receives Life-Changing Makeover With Help Of Talented Hairstylist

Mar 25, 2021

A makeover can go a long way toward changing someone's life. Whether it boosts their self-esteem or completely changes the way other people treat them, a new look goes beyond just improving one's style.

That is certainly the case in this story in which a homeless person received a makeover that completely changed his appearance. His dramatic change can be seen in a TikTok uploaded by French celebrity hairstylist David Kodat. The Tiktok shows the transformation with clips of what the man looked like before, during his extreme transformation and the final result at the end.

Kodat posts his work across social media platforms, like Instagram and TikTok. Both accounts have the handle DavidKodatOfficial. He currently has over 24,000 thousand followers on Instagram and over 135,000 thousand followers on TikTok. He uploads content regularly and receives high engagement, especially on his posts about the makeovers he gives homeless people.

Kodat’s salon is based in Strasbourg, France. The shop is small and chic with Kodat’s logo plastered across the windows and signs. The salon currently has a 4.6-star rating and has received plenty of boasting reviews. Some of the best comments are those complimenting Kodat and his team’s welcoming personalities and smiles.

Jason Schneidman is another famous hairstylist who has been inspired to help out the less fortunate. Like Kodat, he gives makeovers to celebrities but has a strong focus on helping the homeless population. Based in Venice, California, Schneidman shares the makeovers he does on his TikTok account THEMENSGROOMER. His account not only follows the looks he provides others, but also provides viewers with a look into their lives and the change they’re hopeful for.

Schneidman faced his own struggles and was even homeless for two years. After landing back on his feet, he committed himself to working as a hairstylist while also trying to help others who were facing similar hardships he overcame. During an interview with Good Morning America, Schneidman revealed that he was hired to give a makeover to a homeless man. This is what pushed him into his current career as a hairstylist with a foundation to help the less fortunate.

According to his website, he believes a new look can inspire new confidence and help give a second chance to those who need a little help getting put on the right path. In fact, the opening quote on Schneidman’s website is:

“I believe a haircut can change someone’s life.”

During an interview with Good Morning America, Schneidman talked about how he viewed the dramatic transformations he gives others. “The first time I (cut hair) I thought the whole transformation was amazing,” Schneidman said. “I’ve always been into the reward of making people change.”

Schneidman believes that most people want a purpose in life, according to Good Morning America. For a lot of people that purpose stems from working. He works to help the homeless get back on their feet and give them the boost they need to embark on their second chance with the world.

“The most rewarding part at the end of the day is that feeling of gratitude of knowing that I might be able to change somebody’s life,” Schneidman told Good Morning America.

THEMENSGROOMER FOUNDATION

Schneidman created THEMENSGROOMER FOUNDATION to help provide homeless people the opportunity to change their lives. THEMENSGROOMER FOUNDATION is an organization that helps those who are struggling. It creates a way for those in need to receive the encouragement they need through the power of a new look. According to THEMENSGROOMER, Schneidman has made it a mission to help people struggling with substance abuse. People are able to donate to the foundation by purchasing his products or through a direct donation.

The foundation has received support from country band Old Dominion, which previously recruited Schneidman to be the group’s hairstylist.

Old Dominion created a documentary showing how even though some people don’t change, others do. With the help of a new look, people can take on a new perspective on their life. The 7-minute long documentary titled “Some People Do” follows homeless men on their journeys to finding their new selves.

In the documentary, Schneidman described his work as a “burning desire” to help others. And his help, along with the help from the members of Old Dominion, was appreciated. Interviews throughout the short documentary showed homeless people expressing their gratitude for the kind gestures provided. They were given pizza, haircuts and most importantly someone to talk to. More times than not, they had been passed on the street without so much as a look, let alone someone to have a conversation with.

Schneidman and the band discussed how just taking even a few minutes to learn someone’s name and ask them how they are could change their life. What seems so simple could make a big difference. This glimmer of hope could brighten someone’s day.

The Dramatic Transformation

With the power of social media, these dramatic makeovers are taking over the hearts of people from all over the world. The transformation has garnered over 23 thousand views, 3,000 likes and a handful of positive comments. It was originally uploaded in Sept. 2020, but has gained new momentum thanks to a re-uploaded version from March 11, 2021.

The now-viral makeover from Kodat shows a homeless man looking shy before embarking on his new journey. His hair, mustache and beard are long, uneven and tangled. The color appears to be blonde turning light gray.

After cutting off plenty of inches of the hair on the man’s head, his ears are visible and his face starts to look warmer. Next, his mustache is shaved off, revealing a sweet smile. Finally, the man’s beard is cut to a medium length. It looks cleaner and more vibrant. The man’s smile is much more noticeable than before, and his eyes are beaming with hopefulness. His once hidden features are now enhanced with his sharp new look.

To help others receive life-changing makeovers, Schneidman is currently taking haircut appointments, selling hair products and promoting his personal merchandise to help complete one’s final makeover transformation.

The makeovers these homeless men have received have been life-altering. Kodat and Schneidman may not work together, but they have worked to help others get the second chance they deserve with a new physical appearance and hopefully a brighter perspective looking ahead.
