Harrison Ford Is Proud Father Of Adopted Son Who Made Him ‘Less Self-Centered’ As He Got Older

Harrison Ford found prominence in Hollywood in the '70s after playing Han Solo, one of the lead roles in the widely acclaimed movie franchise "Star Wars." The award-winning actor soon became a name to reckon with when he landed the lead role in the renowned “Indiana Jones” movie franchise. 

Ford's career gained ground after years of hard work and dedication to his craft. He soon became Hollywood's heartthrob and was reported to have many high-profile relationships within the industry. It, therefore, comes as no surprise that Ford, who is a doting father to his five talented children, has been married three times. 

His first marriage to Mary Marquardt produced two children Ben, 56, and Willard, 54 before their marriage collapsed in 1979. The Academy Award winner soon tied the knot a second time with screenwriter Melissa Mathison in 1983  and had two children, a son, and a daughter, with her. However, the duo filed for divorce in 2001. Nevertheless, Ford maintains a good relationship with all his children till today. 

Ford found love a third time with actress Calista Flockhart who he met at the Golden Globes in 2002. At the time, Flockhart had a son, Liam, and Ford quickly fell in love with him. When the couple got married in 2010, Ford legally adopted Flockhart's son and has shown him nothing but love since then. 

Liam graduated from Amherst College on May 28, 2023, and his proud parents were there to celebrate with him. Ford, in particular, could not hide his love for his son — whom he said made his life more fun and better in his old age — as he looked fondly at him. Ford and Flockhart met while his divorce proceedings with Mathison were still ongoing so the pair kept their relationship under wraps for a while. When they met, Flockhart had just adopted a baby boy. The “Ally McBeal” star was single at the time but told ABC News after the adoption, "I have always wanted to adopt a child and I am overjoyed that I have been blessed with a beautiful and healthy son."

After Ford and the single mom hit it off, the actor admitted that Flockhart's action showed how much love she had and soon confirmed his love for her. He thanked her for bringing young Liam into his life in his old age. Ford's youngest child other than Liam was already 17 at the time and the actor confessed that having Liam around made him feel younger and "less self-centered."

"She’s brought a child back into my home," he said of Flockhart at the time, calling her the best mother in the world. Ford said that having a child growing up around him allowed him to witness the "blossoming and the growing and the nurturing and the payoff." Indeed, Ford and Liam became fast friends and are still the same today, with the 80-year-old still receiving the payoff.  

Although Ford and his son Liam like to keep their lives private, they enjoy skydiving which Ford said they did in 2019. The dad of five also shared that they were planning to go on another skydiving adventure but only on the condition that Flockhart would not find out about it.

Ford and Flockhart's relationship with each other and with their son has stood the test of time. This was evident when the doting parents attended their son's graduation on May 28, 2023, at Amherst College. Ford watched proudly as his youngest child received his diploma and a cane which the college explained on its website was to symbolize the support students received while learning.

Ford and Flockhart also took pictures with Liam and in some cases, Flockhart stood aside while the father-son duo took pictures together. A photo posted by Page Six on Instagram showed Ford leaning over and holding Liam on his shoulder while he looked at him with pride. The post read: "#HarrisonFord's youngest child is a college graduate! The actor and wife #Calista Flockhart were spotted cheering their son on at the ceremony over the weekend."

Fans of the famous couple flocked to the comments section to wish the family well on their son's success. Moreover, because of how private the family is, some were surprised to see that Liam was grown up. "Omg...I remember him as a 4 years old...where did the time fly?" a follower wrote. 

Other followers congratulated Liam. A fan wrote, "Congratulations🎉terrific young man ❤️💕. " Another follower clapped for the 22-year-old and wrote, "Awesome job. Congratulations.” 

Meanwhile, some fans were surprised to see that Flockhart and Ford were still together. "They're still married?? That's so nice and not something you expect in Hollywood lol Awww, finally a feel-good story," a follower commented. Many more gushed about Flockhart’s skin and asked about her skincare routine.

Overall, it was great seeing Ford, Flockhart and their son, Liam, looking great together. Hopefully, they will go on to have more beautiful moments together.
