Grow A Lemon Tree In Your Own Home? Here's How
May 17, 2018
Want to stop buying your lemons at the supermarket? What if I told you that it was actually incredibly easy to begin growing a lemon tree in your own home? You'll never have to worry about finding lemons again!
Here are 4 easy steps to put yourself on the road to growing lemons in your own home!
1. Pick The Seed
In order to begin growing a lemon tree, you must first have a seed to plant. The key to finding a viable seed is picking one that is large and heavy. It should be undamaged—find 10 seeds like this in preparation of planting them all at the same time, in case one of the seeds doesn't grow efficiently.

2. Prepare Pot And Soil
Find the pot you would like to plant your tree in (larger pot for more seeds!) and then find a pasteurized soil mix to plant your seeds in. Avoiding bacteria in your soil mix is crucial to successfully growing a lemon tree.
3. Plant Your Seeds
Fill your pot with the pasteurized soil and begin watering it until the medium part of the soil is entirely damp. After that, make a tiny hole about half of an inch inside the soil with your finger or a pencil. Put the seed in that hole pointy side down and cover it with the soil.
The next step is to let it photosynthesize and grow! In other words, cover the pot with a piece of plastic to keep the warmth and moisture inside and poke some holes to make sure the air is circulating properly. Continually water until you see the first sprouts, then remove the plastic and continue.
4. Patience Is A Virtue
Once the sprouts begin, you're truly on your way to having a lemon tree! Be patient, as it will take time. Make sure to water them at least twice a week, keeping in mind that they won't start bearing fruits for at least a few years.
