Wednesday evenings are a busy time for Frenchy’s Chicken on Richmond Avenue. It was no different on this day. Manager Ahmed Elmadhoun was at the register taking orders when two customers caught his eye. A woman and her three-year-old granddaughter walked into the restaurant. The restaurant was crowded, but they stood in line.
When the lady reached the front of the counter, she had a strange request. She wanted to speak with Elmadhoun in private. It hurt Elmadhoun’s heart to hear that the woman was in distress. He found out that the grandmother needed food and money for gas. She did not have food to feed her ten grandchildren. The grandmother also did not have any gas in her car.

She wanted to speak with Elmadhoun to ask for a favor. According to Positive Outlooks, she wanted to get food that Wednesday evening and return the next day to pay for the items. The grandmother planned to use her tax return to pay for the food. She offered her identification care for collateral to prove she was coming back.
However, Elmadhoun had something else in mind. It was not a typical situation for the restaurant manager. Elmadhoun shared the story with KHOU 11, stating:
"It is not something that you hear every day. She was embarrassed and going through a tough time. I told her not to feel that way because everybody goes through hardships."
Elmadhoun did not take the lady’s identification card. However, he prepared a meal that would feed this family. He filled a to-go bag with different items from the restaurant’s menu. The grandmother did not have money, but it did not stop Elmadhoun from having compassion. He filled the to-go bag with chicken, sides, and a dessert for the children. He told the grandmother the food was a gift.
Elmadhoun recalled during his interview with KHOU 11 that the woman had a look of relief on her face. She was in awe and smiling. The grandmother could not believe the compassion on display. On top of the manager’s kindness, he also told the woman she could return for more food if she were ever in need again. Elmadhoun said they were there for the grandmother.
