Godfather Of Funk George Clinton And His Wife Celebrate Their Marriage Anniversary In Post
Jun 12, 2020
Musician George Clinton, otherwise known as the "Godfather of Funk," last week celebrated his marriage anniversary to his wife Carlon Thompson with a post on Instagram. Well known for releasing music under the Parliament-Funkadelic collective, the legendary musician showed off his softer side by posting images of himself and Carlon and telling the world about his marriage.
In the Instagram post, which was uploaded nearly one week ago, four images of the couple were shared in a slideshow, with the accompanying caption:
"It’s our anniversary today! #georgeclinton #Carlon #loveislove."
The first image features George and Carlon candidly taking a selfie while wearing matching cowboy hats adorned with pins. Their signature style is already on display and they look stellar. The second photo appears to be while the couple is on vacation, or in the least somewhere sunny and warm. In it, they're wearing relaxed clothes.
The third image includes full-length shots of the couple sitting on a couch, showing off their incredible style, with Marlon in lace-up red boots and George in black-and-white printed pants. And the last image is an intimate black-and-white photo in which the couple is dressed up, while George is smoking.

Before they were married, Carlon was already working with George as his manager for the last 10 years. The couple tied the knot sometime after 2013, which is when George went through a divorce with his first wife, Stephanie Lynn Goshorn. They were married in 1990 and didn't share any children together, however in 2013 they called it quits and filed for divorce.
Tragically, George's son from another relationship died in 2010 at the age of 50 from natural causes. The last 10 years must have brought about a lot of change in his life, so it's no wonder he must feel supported in his marriage with Carlon.
George Clinton is an icon of funk music, acting as one of the pioneers of the musical genre in the 1970s, which drew on psychedelia, science fiction, surreal humor, and outlandish fashion. He was inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 1997, alongside 15 other members of the Parliament-Funkadelic musical collective. Last year in 2019, the collective earned Lifetime Achievement Awards at the Grammys.
Known since the '70s for his outlandish fashion that included colorful clothes and hairstyles, George was always stylish from the beginning. He enjoyed huge success with Parliament-Funkadelic, but eventually, the music genre became less popular in the mainstream charts, giving way to new genres of music.
