Aug 09, 2018

It's rare to find someone living past the century mark but Giuseppa Projetto surpassed that feat on her 116th birthday. Known as the oldest person in Europe when she passed away on July 6 of this year, Mrs. Projetto left behind a loving family to celebrate her her long, extraordinary life.

The Beloved Nonna of Italy

In December of 2017 her grandson told Projetto the incredible news that she'd been named Europe's oldest living person.

"Really? And exactly how old I am?" Giuseppina asked.

Upon hearing that she was 116, she responded, "So many?" Guilia Mannozzi, Projetto's daughter-in-law, was quoted as saying that after dealing with the exceptional lady for the past 50 years, she wasn't surprised by the news, saying that to the family, "The age of Grandma is normal."

What's the Secret to Giuseppina's Long Life?

Two things are attributed to helping Giuseppina Projetto reach the age of 116: chocolate and a positive attitude.

Even though she had difficulty chewing food, Giuseppina always found a way to eat the chocolate she loved so much at the end of every meal. Mannozzi recalls that Projetto once told her she couldn't go one single day without chocolate. Mrs. Projetto knew a good thing when she tasted it.

While chocolate isn't something a dentist would recommend eating in excess, studies have shown that Giuseppina's favorite superfood has a ton of health benefits. Dark chocolate and cacao nibs are the healthiest types of chocolate.
