Torch Lake is enormous. The lake measures 29.33 square miles, with an astounding 19-mile length. Because of the size of the lake, many people bring their boats, jet skis and have lots of fun in this "so-called" tropical paradise.

The Source of Torch Lake's Incredible Color

The one thing that has really made Torch Lake famous is its incredible color. In fact, the lake has one of the most crystal clear waters of any lake in the country. According to the Torch Conservation Center, the color of the lake due to the varying depths of the water and the plant life that lives within the water.

The three colors in the water include indigo, turquoise, and aqua. The lake itself as a depth of up to 285 feet.

Because of the incredible colors of the lake, many people have taken to Instagram to post a picture of Torch Lake during the day as well as the sunset. This has lead to a surge in visitors to the lake's remote location. Some Other Interesting Torch Lake Facts

While Torch Lake is not one of the five Great Lakes, it is the second-largest inland lake in the state. Torch Lake is not only given its name from the shape of the lake, the name is also derived from the native word Waswaaganing which means "lake of the torches," according to the Torch Conservation Center.

In order to hunt the fish, natives used torches to lure the fish to the surface with the torch's illumination. Finally, Torch Lake is the location of second homes to a number of Michigan celebrities including Kid Rock, Eminem, and Michael Moore.
