George Strait's Grandson Joins Him On Stage — Duo Entralls Audience With ‘God & Country Music’

Mar 09, 2022

When it comes to country music, there are a few artists who are recognized as some of the greatest and most iconic singers and musicians in the field. While Reba McEntire is considered the Queen of Country Music and has continued to release amazing music over the span of her career, it seems like there’s no topping the King of Country Music – George Strait.

Strait was born on May 18, 1952, in Poteet, Texas. He found a love for music at a young age and began his career while he was still in high school. He first started playing in a rock and roll garage band, being inspired by The Beatles, before going on to find a true love for country music. He began listening to the likes of Hank Williams, and even appreciated Frank Sinatra’s style.

Strait went on to pioneer the neo-traditionalist country movement and cowboy look, being one of the more modern artists to revitalize the old-timey sound. With a career spanning close to five decades, Strait has had no shortage of chart-topping hits, and has become one of the best-selling country artists of all time.

The singer has since taken a backseat when it comes to his career, having slowed down his musical releases and touring schedule. However, Strait has continued to show just why he is the King of Country Music – and has always done it with his heart on his sleeve. Back in 2019, Strait performed at the Houston Rodeo and brought out a special guest – his grandson. Together, they performed an amazing duet.

Strait has had a lifetime of success as a country music star. He has received endless awards and honors for his long-lasting career in the spotlight as he has undoubtedly paved the way for aspiring singers and musicians of today. Some of Strait’s greatest hits include “Amarillo by Morning,” “Check Yes or No” and “All My Exes Live in Texas.”

Strait’s talents exceed the music industry, though, as he has shown that he also has skills in the acting department. Strait has appeared in a handful of films. He started off with a small role in the 1982 movie “The Soldier” before going on to star in “Pure Country” in 1992. Strait appeared as himself in “Grand Champion” in 2002. Of course, Strait was sure to tie in his musical roots to his acting performances, and was even able to take a more rock and roll approach to the soundtrack for “Pure Country.”

Over the years, Strait has been recognized for his work as a singer, songwriter and musician, and has also received great praise for his touring capabilities. While he is typically known for his heartfelt songs and stoic stance, he has also shown a more charismatic side and more parts of his personality with a handful of performances.

The Houston Rodeo was the stage for Strait's first gig that previewed “Honky Tonk Time Machine,” which was his latest album at the time. It was released on March 29, 2019, with the first single “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar” having been released shortly beforehand in February 2019. As of 2022, this is the latest album from Strait.

According to News 4 San Antonio, the Houston Rodeo took place on March 7, 2019. Strait’s “Honky Tonk Time Machine” was previewed for the audience when the star performed his latest tracks, including “Every Little Honky Tonk Bar,” “Codigo,” and “God and Country Music." While fans were ecstatic to hear new music from the legend, it’s clear that there was one show-stopping moment in particular that completely captivated the hearts of the crowd.

The highlight of the night was when Strait's seven-year-old grandson Harvey joined him on stage. The adorable little boy was happy to sing along with his grandpa to the song, "God and Country Music." Some of the most notable lyrics include:

“God and country music, they both never change. You find ‘em when you need ‘em, where you stand.”

Although Harvey only sang a few lyrics, his mere presence delighted the audience of 80,108 fans. This massive amount of people broke the previous Houston Rodeo show attendance record. Ironically, it was Straight who also set that record with 80,020 tickets sold back in 2013. It is no wonder that Straight boasts all of these Houston Rodeo attendance records. Despite this record-breaking number, not every fan was able to attend the iconic show. Fortunately, there is a video of Strait’s amazing duet with his precious grandson.

The legendary country music star is loved wherever he performs, and it’s clear that that love extends to his family. The crowd gave Harvey a big ovation as he walked off the stage. Before leaving, however, Harvey was sure to give his grandpa a big hug.
