Garth Brooks is an enduring icon of country music who has left a lasting mark on the genre and the hearts of millions of fans worldwide. With his powerful voice, charismatic stage presence, and heartfelt storytelling, he has captured the essence of country music and continues to be a driving force in the industry. However, while stardom has its perks, Brooks has never lost sight of his true passions – music and family.
Born Troyal Garth Brooks on Feb. 7, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Brooks was exposed to various genres, but country music struck a chord in his heart. Inspired by artists like George Jones and James Taylor, he began honing his singing and songwriting skills from a young age.
In adulthood, Brooks pursued his passion for music by moving to Nashville, Tennessee, the heartland of country music. His relentless dedication and undeniable talent eventually caught the attention of Capitol Records, leading to the release of his debut self-titled album in 1989.
The album became a massive success, showcasing Brooks’ unique blend of traditional country elements and contemporary sounds. His wife, Trisha Yearwood, born on Sept. 19, 1964, began her career as an intern at MTM Records, where she later worked as a full-time employee.
With the company's resources, she recorded some of her earlier demos and even did backup vocals for up-and-coming artists at the time. In 1991, she released her self-titled debut album, which featured her first song, "She's in Love with the Boy."
Brooks and Yearwood became one of the most enduring power couples in the music industry. Together, they achieved numerous milestones together and faced criticism from the public, one of which was Yearwood’s physical appearance. After fielding plenty of backlash over her weight gain, many are surprised to see the songstress in a now slimmer figure in an Instagram post in August 2024.
Aside from being two of the best-known country musicians in the industry, the couple share one thing in common: their problem with gaining weight and eventually finding a solution to get back to their healthy lifestyles.
In a 2013 interview with Good Housekeeping, Yearwood revealed that she started her weight loss journey at the age of 15 and that one of the craziest things she did was during her college years when she followed a diet called the "Banana, Egg, and Hot Dog Diet."
Yearwood has struggled with her body image. She admitted wanting a "quick fix" to "look good at an awards show."
Later, she was able to pick herself up and get serious with her healthy lifestyle journey, explaining the formula: "All diets work if you eat less and exercise more. And none work if you don't do those things."
She began circuit training with a personal trainer. Regarding her diet, she started eating breakfast again. She included ingredients she had previously avoided, like "fruits, vegetables, and lean protein," cabbage, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, and more. In the end, she lost 30 pounds.
On the other hand, Brooks also had his weight loss journey. During a press conference ahead of his Croke Park performance on Sept. 22, as reported by the Irish Mirror, the singer revealed that he lost over 50 pounds to run around the venue.
He noted that he was the same weight as in 1997 when he performed at the venue for the first time.
Nevertheless, the couple proved their love for one another. Brooks never made his wife feel bad about her weight, and she said, "He always told me I was beautiful. He says, 'I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. I love you at this weight, and the only other weight I love you at is whatever weight you are.'"

Yearwood was honored with the ACM Icon Award at the 17th Annual Academy of Country Music Honors held at Nashville’s Ryman Auditorium on Aug. 21, 2024. Billboard reported that the award is given to an artist, duo/group or industry leader who has advanced the genre's popularity through contributions to different areas of the industry, including songwriting, recording, production, film and more.
Brooks, Yearwood’s husband, couldn’t be more proud of his wife. In a statement on his website, he talked about his wife and her brilliance.
“I was just so proud. I’m always proud of her, but to see and hear her recognized like that – and to hear people use the word ‘icon’ in the same breath as her name – just took me someplace new,” Brooks added. “She is an icon. I know what a world-class talent and force she is…and we all know what an incredible vocalist she is…but I love it when others really take notice, too.”
Many fans celebrated Yearwood’s win on social media. Some even praised the award-winning singer for her stunning transformation in a new photo carousel she uploaded on Instagram.
“So beautiful Congratulations to you,” a fan said, echoing another, “Looking good lady! Love your dress!!”
Meanwhile, some asked Yearwood about the secret to her figure.
“Wish I knew how you lost your weight, Trisha!! 😟,” a follower asked, with one even insisting her to reveal her secret for losing weight.
However, not all were happy with Yearwood’s shocking transformation and suggested that she had something done surgically to achieve her great figure.
“Trisha has fallen into the facelift category, she doesn’t look like herself anymore,” a user pointed out.
“Instead take the drugs that you vehemently claim “big pharma” is evil but yet you take the meds?!?!?” another said.
