Garth Brooks is an enduring icon of country music who has left an indelible mark on the genre and the hearts of millions of fans worldwide. With his powerful voice, charismatic stage presence and heartfelt storytelling, he has captured the essence of country music and continues to be a driving force in the industry. However, while stardom has its perks, Garth has never lost sight of his true passions – music and family.
Born Troyal Garth Brooks on Feb. 7, 1962, in Tulsa, Oklahoma, Garth was exposed to various genres, but it was country music that struck a chord in his heart. Inspired by artists like George Jones and James Taylor, he began honing his singing and songwriting skills from a young age.
In adulthood, Garth pursued his passion for music by moving to Nashville, Tennessee, the heartland of country music. His relentless dedication and undeniable talent eventually caught the attention of Capitol Records, leading to the release of his debut self-titled album in 1989.
The album went on to become a massive success, showcasing Garth's unique blend of traditional country elements and contemporary sounds. On the other hand, his wife, Trisha Yearwood, was born on Sept. 19, 1964. She started off as an intern at MTM Records and later worked as a full-time employee.
With the help of the company's resources, she was able to record some of her earlier demos and even did backup vocals for up-and-coming artists at the time. In 1991, she released her self-titled debut album, which featured her first song ever, "She's in Love with the Boy."
Garth Brooks and Trisha Yearwood first met in 1988. Their romance didn't take off during their first meeting as they were still involved in their separate marriages.
According to Hello!, the songstress was previously married to Christopher Latham from 1987 to 1991. Her next husband wasn't Brooks either, as she later tied the knot with Bobby Reynolds from 1994 to 1999.
The country musician, on the other hand, had a romantic relationship with his ex-wife, Sandy Mahl, from 1986. Their marriage didn't last as they divorced in 2001.
In 2005, Brooks was ready to start a new chapter of his life with Yearwood as he asked her hand in marriage in front of thousands of fans. They got married later that year and are still going strong as of 2023.
In August 2023, the couple appeared in a video for Good Morning America where they were asked about the secret to a happy marriage as a countdown for Robin Roberts and her fiancé Amber Laign before they got married.
The video appeared to have several cuts in the form of bloopers as they couldn't answer it directly, but in the end, they finally revealed their answer.
"You know what's the secret to a happy marriage?" Brooks asked, and then both of them answered, "marry your best friend."
Aside from being some of the best country musicians around, the couple also share one thing in common: their problem with gaining weight and eventually finding a solution to get back to their healthy lifestyles.
In a 2013 interview with Good Housekeeping, Yearwood revealed that she started her weight loss journey at the age of 15 and one of the craziest things she did was during her college years, where she followed a diet called "Banana, Egg, and Hot Dog Diet."

She explained that she would eat nine eggs on the first day, nine hotdogs on the second, and nine hotdogs on the third. Although she lost weight, she was able to gain it back again and sometimes even more.
Unfortunately, Yearwood struggled with her image as she admitted that she wanted to have a "quick fix" in order "to look good at an awards show."
Later on, she was able to pick herself up and get serious with her healthy lifestyle journey, as she explained the formula, "All diets work if you eat less and exercise more. And none work if you don't do those things."
The singer revealed she did circuit training with her trainer. Regarding her food intake, she started eating breakfast again and dabbled in the ingredients she previously had, like "fruits, vegetables, and lean protein," as well as cabbage, sweet potatoes, cucumbers, and more. In the end, she lost 30 pounds.
On the other hand, Brooks also had his own weight loss journey. During a press conference ahead of his Croke Park performance on Sept. 22, as reported by the Irish Mirror, the singer revealed that he lost over 50 pounds in order to run around the venue.
He noted that he was the same weight as he was in 1997 when he performed at the venue for the first time.
He clarified that it wasn't about what he looked like on the outside but rather feeling good about himself.
Nevertheless, the couple proved their love for one another as Brooks never made his wife feel bad about her weight as she said, "He always told me I was beautiful. He says, 'I wish you could see yourself the way I see you. I love you at this weight, and the only other weight I love you at is whatever weight you are.'"
