Forever Young: Rod Stewart Marks His 75th Birthday
Jan 10, 2020
Singer Rod Stewart turns 75-years-old today. The rocker has had a successful career in music but many don't know he originally had his sights on being a professional soccer player. In the beginning of his life, things took a turn and he agrees he's happy he is a rock star, it's easier than a soccer player's life because you get to "drink on the job."
Writing in his 2012 autobiography, Stewart says he's happy with how things happened in his life. After not getting signed with a football club in his youth, Stewart went on to pursue music which landed him in bands like The Jeff Beck Group, and then with Faces before eventually signing a solo contract.

Releasing countless hits, and gaining international success, the rocker was also knighted by Prince William in 2016 making him 'Sir Roderick David Stewart.' Stewart opened up to The Daily Mail about his hairy past with women. "There was a period in my life — and it wasn’t a prolonged one, maybe just a few years — where it was a bit “one in, one out”,’ admits Rod.
"The girls involved would never have known that, obviously," he told the tabloid. The rockstar has eight children from five different women and has also tied the knot three times. Most people believed that he would never actually settle down with one woman for the rest of his life.
However, Stewart contends, "I got bored of not feeling affectionate towards girls. I wanted to be in love. I wanted something special. After a while it was sad, it was actually sad...You just felt empty. If you’re 17 or 18 it’s great fun, in your 20s it is fine, but the older you get . . . the more tragic it gets," he said.
However, Stewart finally found the love of his life in Penny Lancaster who is a model and photographer. The pair have now been together for almost 20 years.
Stewart told Rolling Stone in 2018: "What a job I have," he said.
"I get paid for getting on a stage and singing, sending everybody home happy. It's not like being a footballer or a sportsman. You can send people home unhappy if you lose, but I'm in a win-win situation."
