Figure Skater Nails Routine Recreating Wednesday Addams’ Dance To The Cramps’ ‘Goo Goo Muck’

Jan 02, 2023

Wednesday Addams is a fictional character adored by fans around the world for her morbid, emotionally reserved personality. Having made her first appearance as a New Yorker cartoon character in 1938, Wednesday has since become well-loved after debuting as a live-action character in the 1964 television series "The Addams Family." The show ran for two seasons with a total of 64 episodes. A then-6-year-old Lisa Loring portrayed Wednesday Addams in the show.

There have been various remakes of "The Addams Family" as well as spinoffs and sequels throughout the years, including the 1991 film of the same name and its sequel "Addams Family Values" where actress Christina Ricci took on the character in the film. An animated version of "The Addams Family" was released in 2019, with Chloë Grace Moretz lending her voice to the character.

While Ricci undeniably cemented herself in pop culture for her portrayal of Wednesday, young star Jenna Ortega brought renewed interest in the younger daughter of the Addams family. In fact, Netflix's "Wednesday" starring Ortega surpassed the all-time high ranking that "Dahmer" held on the streaming platform, with an estimated 150 million households watching the series in its first three weeks.

But it’s no wonder "Wednesday" became a hit because fans just couldn’t help but gush over Ortega’s portrayal in the Tim Burton-helmed series.

If you’re still not convinced, a Russian figure skater recreated Ortega’s viral dance from the show.

When Kamila Valieva took to the ice skating stage at the 2023 Russian Figure Skating Championships, she certainly caught the attention of the audience who witnessed her routine.

In the show, Wednesday can be seen throwing her hands in the air and making eerie dance moves while attending a dance with her classmates, which caught her partner by surprise.

But that’s not only what the 16-year-old professional skater did. She went full on Wednesday with signature pigtails, makeup and a black party dress — exactly like the one Wednesday donned in the scene. It was as if she really was Ortega, only she wasn’t.

Valieva stared off her routine as if she was getting out of a coffin as she sat up, channeling her inner Wednesday with no emotions at all. Then, The Cramps’ "Goo Goo Muck" began playing, allowing her to do Wednesday’s moves.

Of course, people loved every single thing about it.

“She actually slayed that though,” one person wrote.

“I’m crying because I love ice skating and Wednesday,” another person said.

“This is the most satisfying thing I have ever watched,” one user said.

According to a Billboard report, Valieva scored 247.32 points for her short program and free skate. She lost out to Sofia Akateva in the women’s senior championship division.

It wasn’t the first time Wednesday’s iconic dance routine was recreated by a famous person. The pop queen herself, Lady Gaga, also recreated Ortega’s dance moves while her song "Bloody Mary" played in the background in a TikTok video.

Valieva also incorporated the sped-up version of Lady Gaga’s "Bloody Mary" in her routine.

While Valieva did not win the competition, those who have seen her performance believe she deserved to be the champion.

“She nailed Wednesday's facial expressions! Also that ina bauer in the start and her flexible spins fit this theme so good! And that dance! Everything! She is special,” one fan said.
