Fan Confusion: Richard Gere’s 41-Year-Old Wife Gets Mistaken For Popular Actress

American actor Richard Gere has been a leading man in Hollywood since he began appearing in films in the 1970s. Growing up in Syracuse, New York, Gere made a name for himself in the entertainment industry.

Although he’s been in many major films over the last decades, two of his best-known roles are as Edward Lewis in “Pretty Woman,” where he played a rich playboy from New York who falls in love with a Hollywood prostitute and as lawyer Billy Flynn in the hit musical “Chicago.”

Gere was nominated for Golden Globe Awards for both roles. While he missed out on winning the award for “Pretty Woman,” he landed the Best Actor Award for “Chicago” in 2003.

With his innate charm and handsome looks, Gere had been linked with various women in Hollywood. He has reportedly been involved with actresses like Dawn Steel, Loree Rodkin, Carole Mallory, Tuesday Weld, and even Barbra Streisand. He was also linked to Priscilla Presley and Kim Basinger. 

Aside from these women, Gere has had two marriages—with Cindy Crawford and Carey Lowell. Now, he is married to Spanish publicist Alejandra Silva, who is 33 years his junior. 

Although many have raised their eyebrows at the rather wide age gap between Gere and Silva, the two have been unfazed by the comments and criticisms. They have also been very sweet and supportive of each other on many public occasions where they’re both invited. 

At the 2024 Zurich Film Festival, held in Zurich, Switzerland, the 75-year-old actor and his beautiful wife stepped out on the red carpet. Many of Gere’s fans took a double look as they mistook Silva for another actress.

Gere was accompanied by his loving wife, Silva, who looked stunning in her cream and silver sparkling dress. The two looked very much in love with each other as they posed for photos on the red carpet, where Gere looked dapper in his stylish black tuxedo. 

On social media, fans showered the couple with praises. 

“She is a very attractive lady. I can see what he sees on (sic) her. They make a good couple,”  a user said on Instagram. 

Meanwhile, users on Facebook described the couple as “beautiful.” However, many expressed distaste for the wide age gap between the 75-year-old actor and his 41-year-old wife. 

“It would be horrible if i would fall in love with a man who’d 75 when I would be 41.Age difference is huge and he would look like a grandpa so i dont know how i could turn on either. He looks really old in this photo too. And he is. Somehow really sad these age differences. U cant grow old together,” one said on Facebook. 

“They look Ridiculous Together. He is almost old enough to be her Grandfather,” another wrote. 

Apart from the condescending comments and hurtful descriptions, many thought that Silva looked beautiful. Others even thought she looked like one of Gere’s most iconic partners on screen – Julia Roberts. 

“She looks like Julia roberts,” one shared, agreeing to another who said, “She looks a bit like Julia Robert’s.” Even people on Instagram shared the same sentiments, as users commented, “I thought it was Julia Roberts.”
