Family Feud Erupts After Man Leaves House To Granddaughter Who Cared For Him While Her Dad & Brother Abandoned Him
Apr 11, 2023
There are different ways children take care of their parents. In some cultures, children make sure to be there for their parents until they die. For some, they let their parents stay in nursing homes. Then again, there can be many reasons why people do what they do. At the end of the day, what’s important is that the love between parents and their children stays the same.
Of course, it’s an entirely different thing when children go on with their lives and let their parents live on their own without even trying to look after them. It can admittedly be sad for some parents whose children abandon them knowing they made big sacrifices in their lives just so they could raise their children. Lucky for some, they are gifted with family members who are willing to be there for them until their last days.
Some people reward those who have taken care of and looked after them by leaving everything to them after their death. Well, such was the case for one woman who took care of her grandparents because her parents didn’t care about them. But when they found out that she was getting everything, her family started coming after her.
In April 2022, a woman took to Reddit to ask if she was in the wrong for not giving up the house she inherited from her grandparents to her parents.
The woman began by sharing the kind of relationship she had with her family, revealing that she has a closer relationship with her grandparents compared to her parents.
“I was raised in a Christian household. With that came gender roles that were ingrained in me at a young age. My granddad however hated that my parents taught us this way and as I got older I did too,” she said.
“Because of this, I became very close with my grandparents instead of my own parents. I also have an older brother that my parents labeled ‘the second king of the house,’” she added.
Her grandparents lived in a beautiful house with no neighbors, many trees and a garden that they considered very special to them. Her grandfather, on the other hand, suffered from a health condition that worsened over time. Her grandfather didn’t want somebody that he didn’t know to look after him, but the woman's parents also didn’t want to look after him.
“My parents preached that it was punishment for all his sins so they wouldn’t take care of him and were planning on putting him in a home," she said.
So, the woman looked after her grandfather instead. She and her grandfather formed a bond like no other.
“In the time I took care of him, we filled the home with the love and laughter my grandmother brought to it. As my granddad got worse not a single call. Not from my mom, or dad, or my brother. We were joking about it once and he said ‘maybe I should just give you missy (the house’s name lol) instead of your dad, he’s just gonna give it to your brother anyway.’ He laughed after he said that so I assumed he was joking,” the woman said.
But the day she feared the most came after her grandfather died. While she eventually reconnected with her parents, the happy moments didn’t last as the last will revealed that she was getting the house instead of her brother.

“The funeral was the first time I ever truly connected with my parents in years. We hugged and cried together and we were all vulnerable. But then it came time for the will. Now it wasn’t some telenovela with all the dramatics but it was intense. The house that was supposed to be my dad’s became mine as well as many other things that my dad planned on giving to my brother,” she said.
It even came to a point where she got accused of getting inside her grandfather’s head.
“I was accused of manipulating my granddad into giving it to me and my brother was just yelling,” she said.
Her brother then came to her house to beg her to give him the house, but she refused. Then again, this left her at a crossroads.
“He’s right I don’t need the house, my job pays me good money and I could easily just live somewhere else. On the other hand, though my granddad wouldn’t want him OR my dad to have it. I am at a loss here,” she said.
Several people sided with the woman, with many saying she deserves it since she took care of her grandfather. Others said she has nothing to feel guilty about since it’s one way of respecting her grandfather’s wishes.
“You took care of your grandfather out of love, expecting nothing in return. Your dad and brother gave nothing, and expected everything in return. Keep the house. Your grandfather made the right decision,” one person said.
“Do not give up that house. Respect your Grandad’s wishes. He wanted you to have it. Keep filling it with love and laughter,” another person said.
