Family Bewildered When Pregnant Goat Has Difficulty Delivering And Baby With Two Heads Is Born

Apr 21, 2020

On a big family farm in small town Wittenberg, Wisconsin, the Nueske family had been waiting for one of their pregnant goats to finally go into labor and were excited when the day finally came on April 5, 2020. But when the baby goat finally popped out, they discovered the newborn goat had two heads.

As they watched the mother deliver her baby, they noticed that things weren't going quite as they planned. The mother was having trouble delivering and no one was sure why, as she was a healthy goat with no previous signs of trouble. Once the baby popped out, the shocked family discovered why: the baby goat had two heads.

In the past year, a thousand goats have been born on the Nueske farm, according to WCTV, but this goat is the first they've ever seen with two heads. They've had to learn all about keeping alive an odd goat like this. They learned that both of the heads can and want to eat, so the family bottle feeds both.

The family named the black and white colored goat Janus, after an ancient Greek god who was known for having two unique and distinct heads, and the name itself means duality, according to WCTV. The Nuseke family has a theory that the two-headed goat was originally two separate twins in the mother's womb, but that the eggs didn't fully split.

The goat already has the odds stacked against it, as its survival rate is only about fifty percent, according to the family's interview with WCTV. The family is keeping Janus as a pet, so as to help it survive. The family has been sharing more about Janus and his journey on their Facebook page, where hundreds of people have rallied for them and offered words of support.

Janus's adorably odd face has won the heart of social media. After a pregnant goat gave birth, the two headed baby is trying to beat the odds of survival with the help of his new family, the Nusekes. The farmer family has had to learn how to take care of such a unique baby goat.
