Exterminator Shares Cheap Secret: Get Rid Of Ants For Good
Sep 13, 2018
Warmer months and sunny days mean the return of invasive insects. From mosquito bites to giant roaches or spiders creeping on your ceiling, insects can be downright annoying.
Ants have a strong sense of smell so they’re likely to end up in your food and crawling along your walls and floors. No one wants to open their pantry or take out the trash and find ants crawling around inside! Exterminators are a busy bunch in the summer fighting off infestations, but what if you could save some serious cash by getting rid of ants yourself...and at a low cost? Here are a few cheap solutions to keep these pesky insects out of your home for good!
1. Vinegar
Ants can’t stand the smell of vinegar, so use this solution to keep them at bay.
You’ll need:
Distilled vinegar
A few drops of lemon essential oil
1 cup water
In a spray bottle, mix distilled vinegar and water in equal parts. Add the lemon oil, shake the bottle, and spray where you’ve seen ants appear.

2. Peppermint
Ants also hate the smell of peppermint since it makes it more difficult to smell other foods. Try pouring 10 drops of peppermint oil into a spray bottle filled with one cup of water and spritz your home twice daily to keep ants out.
This solution is also safe to use on your garden, driveway, doors, and entryway.
3. Cinnamon
The smell of cinnamon also makes it difficult for ants to sniff out food, so the following solution may be your perfect ally.
You’ll need:
1/2 teaspoon of cinnamon essential oil
1 cup water
Cinnamon cloves (optional)
Add the cinnamon essential oil to the water, stir, and soak a cotton ball or a cloth in the mixture. Wipe all the areas in the home where you have seen ants.
You can also leave cinnamon cloves near the doors and windows to prevent ants from entering your home.
4. Borax
If your ant infestation has gotten out of hand, then it may be time to take drastic measures. Borax is effective at attracting ants and killing them and their colony almost immediately.
You’ll need:
1 teaspoon of borax
2 tablespoons sugar
1 teaspoon water
2 teaspoons peanut butter
Instructions:
In a container, mix the borax, peanut butter, sugar, and water. Cover with a lid, and poke holes on the lid and sides. Ants will be able to enter and exit through the small holes, taking a bit of the mixture.
