Eva Mendes Explains Why Her & Ryan Gosling’s Children Can’t Use The Internet
Aug 09, 2023
Eva Mendes and Ryan Gosling are an A-list couple who have held sway in the entertainment industry for quite some time. Ryan Gosling is renowned for his roles in “The Notebook” and “La La Land” and has received numerous awards and accolades. The actor is quite busy as he also sings and tours with his rock band, Dead Man’s Bones, and visits African countries to raise awareness about conflicts in war-torn areas.
Mendes was born to Cuban parents in Miami but moved to Los Angeles with her mom after her parents divorced. She had a hard time finding her feet as an actress. Mendes attended multiple auditions for commercials and acting gigs but was repeatedly told off for her strong Cuban looks and ethnicity. However, the mom of two didn’t give up and continued to hunt for jobs.
Luckily for the actress, she landed a role in “Training Day” in 2001 which shot her to prominence, and before long, she started landing top jobs, including “Hitch,” which kept her on the lips of the media and the public. Mendes met her partner, Gosling, in 2011, shortly before filming started for “The Place Beyond The Pines,” in which they starred as a couple caring for a boy.
The duo took their parenting act off the screen and into the real world when they got together after filming ended and became a real couple. Since then, they have welcomed two daughters, Amanda and Esmeralda, who they actively parent. On Aug. 3, 2023, Mendes posted a gif on Instagram with a caption that revealed that she and Gosling’s kids can’t access the internet yet. Many fans engaged with the post and shared their opinions. Mendes and Gosling have a very private relationship and keep details about their kids away from the public. However, they sometimes share itty bits about their children. The twosome previously shared how they waited for each other. Gosling never thought of having kids until he met Mendes.
However, after meeting his partner and she got pregnant, he became happy to be a dad.
“Eva said she was pregnant,” he told GQ. “I would never want to go back, you know? I’m glad I didn’t have control over my destiny that way, because it was so much better than I ever had dreamed for myself.”
He added, “I wasn’t thinking about kids before I met her, but after I met Eva, I realized that I just didn’t want to have kids without her.”
The actor revealed that he started wanting to have a family with Mendes on the set of “The Place Beyond The Pines” and didn’t want to just act it anymore.
Mendes, on her part, only started to want kids after meeting Gosling. Once their babies started to arrive, she took a step back from acting so she could be present in their children’s lives. The actress previously shared that her mom inspired her parenting style as she was always at home until when Mendes was 8 or 9.
Mendes’ relationship with her mom helped her to decide to spend time with her children. The A-lister explained that she could always go back to acting. She also disclosed that becoming a parent has changed her choice of roles. However, she shared that she remained open to returning to being an actress.

Mendes stirred a discussion on Instagram on Aug. 3, 2023, when she posted a gif of herself shaking her head emphatically and waving her hand no. She accompanied the post with a caption that read:
“When my kids ask me if they’re old enough to go on the internet, social media or anything requiring wifi 😂."
Mendes’ followers engaged with the post, and many applauded her method.
“I totally agree with this great parenting mama!” a fan commended her.
Another said, “I don’t think it’s safe for anybody’s mental health anymore. Too much hate to handle.”
A third commented:
“We stopped after My 5 year old daughter thinks she has to wear make up and pose like much older girls to be beautiful. Hard no! It’s so damaging to their self esteem.”
However, some fans were against Mendes’ idea. “We are in the internet century, so eventually everyone will need or want to access the internet sorry,” someone argued.
The 49-year-old actress responded and wrote:
“Yes true, but in my house, children do not have access to the internet. It’s too dangerous. Just like drinking or voting or getting a driver’s licence (etc..) isn’t allowed for children, the internet falls under that category for me. Especially social media.”
When one follower asked what time would be good to allow her kids access the internet, Mendes replied:
“Honestly I don’t know, I’ll have to see where it goes- for now, I’m observing them and keeping up with research about how social media can impact a child’s brain. I’m taking it stage by stage.”
However, she noted that her kids still use a device. She wrote:
“I let my kids use the iPad to make movies and watch films I’ve downloaded, but I don’t have internet access on the iPad.”
