Electrician Lost $6,000 Of Equipment Due To Theft So Gets Back At Them By Installing Van With 1,000-Volt Zapper

Jan 15, 2020

Ray Taylor, an electrician from Wolverhampton, England, has been a victim of theft over the last couple of years and has had $6,000 worth of equipment stolen. Firstly, Ray set up security cameras to monitor his van, but that had minimal effect. So, he decided on more drastic measures.

The 61-year-old used his electrical know-how to create a door handle that, when a would-be thief grabs it, gives them a 1,000-volt shock, as reported here in The Sun.

Ray claims that they would not experience any long-lasting effects from it, but they’ll surely reconsider trying to break into his van again.

That’s not all that Ray has done. The determined thief deterrent also set up an alarm system that will blare out a siren that’ll reach 120 decibels, which is similar to a chain saw and louder than what a jet taking off sounds like from 1,000 feet away. Intense strobe lights will be set off at that time as well.

After everything that Ray has done, it’ll be surprising if any thieves are successful in their efforts in the future. If anything, some would argue that they’d deserve what they’re stealing if they somehow get through the electrical shocks, deafening noises and blinding strobe lights to get at the equipment.

Crazily, Ray is actually starting to earn some money instead of lose it as a result of what these thieves and would-be thieves are doing. Other drivers who had been getting robbed too have asked him to install the same system on their trucks. At $450 each, he’d just need to install 14 of them to make up for what the thieves had taken.

What do you think of what Ray did? Was it what was necessary, or was it crossing the line? If it was crossing the line, what should he have done instead? Do you friends or family have any ideas?
