Our bodies are normally pretty good at letting us know when there's some mischief afoot. It's important to learn to take warning signs from your body seriously so that you don't risk getting sick. If you learn to take care of your body and respond to its internal and external cues, you will be more prepared to advance and maintain your health. With that in mind, here's 10 common bodily signals you should pay attention to.

1. Unexplained weight loss

Losing an unexpected amount of weight may be cause for concern as the Rush University Medical Center states. There can be many potential reasons for this issue, but it is best to see a doctor.

2. Weakness in arms or legs

According to Harvard Health Publishing, this is one potential sign of a stroke. Weakness, especially on one side of the body, is a common indicator of a stroke.

3. Shortness of breath

The U.S. National Library of Medicine states that shortness of breath can be caused by bronchitis, asthma, or pneumonia, especially if you don't normally encounter this symptom. If you exercise regularly and have generally good cardiovascular health but still experience shortness of breath, it is a good idea to seek medical attention.

4. Chest pains

Chest pains should always be taken seriously, according to the American Heart Association. This is because chest pain could be a sign of a heart attack.

5. Blurred Vision

Blurred vision can be caused by shortsightedness as the National Eye Institute states. If you experience blurred vision of any kind, be sure to see an optometrist as soon as possible to make sure that your condition is not severe.

6. Rumbling Stomach

Most people experience occasional tummy aches. This is obviously nothing to worry about. However, if you feel constant movement in your stomach (especially if it's painful) this could be a sign of an intestinal or digestive problem, according to the University of Pittsburgh.

7. Peeling Skin

Peeling skin can be a sign that your body is lacking in vitamins. Researchers of the Skin Research Center in New Jersey emphasized the important role of vitamins when it comes to skin care. Make sure that you start eating a balanced diet as soon as possible to give your body the chance to recover and renew itself. If the peeling skin also itches, make sure that you don't have an infection.

8. Loss of sense of smell

If you lose all or part of your sense of smell, this could be a sign of a viral infection or cold. While this is probably not a serious issue to be concerned about, it is worth looking into to make sure that there is no serious issue going on because there are other causes that are more concerning, according to the National Institutes of Health.

9. Twitching Eyelids

Constant twitching eyelids may be a sign that your body is overworked, as UC San Diego Health stated. When your eyelids twitch, it is often because they have been open for too long. An easy trick to help this is to wash your eyes with cold water. There is a possibility that there is a nervous system issue, although this is uncommon.

10. Ringing in the ears

Ringing ears can be the sign of an ear infection. Your ears may ring because of too much exposure to loud environments as the New York Eye and Ear Infirmary explained. Be sure to try and accurately diagnose ringing in the ears by seeing an ear doctor. There is no point in living with an annoyance.
