That may have been in poor taste, but, as I'm sure you'll agree, we simply cannot believe that there are actual farms that butcher dogs for their meat! Apparently, this practice is alive and well.

Organizations like the Humane Society International and SPCA (Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals) are trying to stop the harrowing actions taking place at some of these slaughterhouses.

The fact that some countries simply don't value dogs (and cats) above any other animal is one thing. It is entirely different to torture these animals prior to slaughtering them for their meat.

A Ray of Hope

The Humane Society International was able to shut down one such torture dog farm in Korea back in 2016. In this video, you can see all the precious dogs behind bars. Their shelter is nothing more than a set of aluminum sheds with dirt floors and no heat.

Some are in large cages and others are crammed together in small ones. You can tell simply by looking at them that they are terrified, malnourished, and sad.

Luckily for these dogs and future dogs, this dog meat farm was permanently shut down. The San Francisco SPCA agreed to foster the rescued dogs until loving families were found for them.

A New Reality

The video changes focus from the meat farm to the SPCA shelter in San Francisco, and you can see how much better off the dogs appear to be. In just a short time, they are getting used to "luxuries" they never knew existed.

For example, you will see some of the pooches resting together comfortably instead of crammed up on top of each other. Another dog is receiving her first bath. Still, other dogs are getting to play with toys and running around. One super-lucky dog even got her first-ever belly rub.

These dogs are loving the simple things like having clean water to drink, enough food to eat, and a warm bed to sleep on. Can you imagine the overall peace they are starting to feel knowing they don't have to worry about being tortured?

The Dog Days

These dogs seem to be adjusting to life in their temporary shelter. They obviously feel safe in this place where they are considered friends, not food. The SPCA vows to find loving homes for these sweet dogs but still needs help from the public in the way of donations.

Pass this video to all your dog-loving friends to alert them about the very real phenomenon of dog meat farms. And don't forget to let us know what you think about this story.
