Dec 18, 2018
Brutus is a bullmastiff that happily lives with his family in northern California. He shreds just about anything he plays with. The only exception is his favorite toy ball.
He carries this fluffy yellow ball everywhere with him. Bonnie Michalek is Brutus' owner. She says that even though he has a passion for ripping up toys, Brutus is one of the gentlest dogs in the world.
Bonnie and her husband added him to their family in 2016. They finally had a home that was big enough to house a dog this size. He's quickly become her first baby. She gave birth to a son recently. His name is Kayden. This is why she refers to Brutus as her first.
Having a baby is an eye-opening experience for everyone. However, Bonnie wasn't worried about whether Brutus would get along with her son or not. She knows how excited he gets around children. Plus, he's always been well-behaved around kids. So, she had no doubt that this would be a match made in heaven.

Bonnie said that Brutus even sensed when she was pregnant. She had no idea at the time. Her husband sometimes works nights. On those occasions, Brutus would stand guard and refuse to go into his crate. She originally thought it was an obedience issue. Now she feels like he was just protecting her.
As the family prepared for their newest member to arrive, Brutus joined in the activities. Bonnie made sure to include him in most of the process. When the time came for Kayden to arrive, Brutus slept over with Bonnie's parents. After the birth, Bonnie came home and spent some time alone with Brutus.
Afterward, he was allowed to come and meet his new brother. Brutus met and exceeded their expectations. He was immediately excited to cuddle with his new friend. Brutus has been Kayden's faithful guard ever since. When Kayden cries, here comes Brutus to the rescue. He knows exactly how to help. So, he grabs his favorite fluffy ball and brings it to Kayden.
Since it's his favorite, he thinks it will be Kayden's too. What a sweet boy. He's adjusted so well.
The entire family is learning together now. Plus, Brutus found some of Kayden's toys. Hopefully, he won't mind.
Bonnie and her family have a bright future ahead of them. She says that they take a trip to their cabin each summer. She's been traveling there since she was a child. Brutus has enjoyed summer vacations there since he was a puppy as well. This year, Bonnie says she is very excited to bring Kayden too.
