Deployed Mom Surprises Son At School After He Wishes She Were There

Being apart from one’s parents is one of the worst things that can happen to a child. Sadly, across the United States, thousands of kids find themselves separated from one or both of their parents because they are in the service.

Chief Warrant Officer 3 Denise Sanders is one mom who had been forced to spend way too much time apart from her son. Flying an Apache helicopter across Afghanistan, Denise had an important job, but that didn’t stop her from missing her son or her little boy from missing her.

Denise’s son, Aiden, felt like his mom had been gone for an eternity when the six-month mark was quickly approaching. Denise had already been forced to miss Christmas and Thanksgiving with her family along with school activities where Aiden had to stand without a mom.

It was looking like another school event without Denise when Aiden was asked to gather for a kindergarten assembly. Standing in the cafeteria, the group of kids were told that they were going to have an awards ceremony.

The teacher explained that the Aiden was one student that worked especially hard at school and was extremely dedicated to his work. She called Aiden up onto the stage so that she could present him with an award.

Aiden made his way up to the stage and gave his teacher a big hug, obviously excited to be recognized for his hard work. The teacher asked what he would want if he could have one wish, and Aiden quickly stated that he wants his mom to come home. This was when the magic happened!

Aiden was presented with an item that his mom had taken with her on her deployment. When the teacher asked Aiden how it got to their school, the little boy guessed that it had come in the mail.

At that point, the teacher said that she thought it might be possible for them to make Aiden’s wish come true. The excited little boy was full of hope as the other kids in the lunchroom chanted “Let’s make his wish happen!” Aiden was directed to close his eyes and repeat his wish that his mom would come home.

Completely unbeknownst to Aiden, his mom was standing behind a curtain on the stage. When Aiden opened his eyes, he was shocked to see his mom right in front of him. The little boy rushed to his mom’s side and jumped into her arms; overcome with emotion, he cried into her neck. Finally, the sweet child was able to have his mom back with him!
