Deaf Father Beams With Joy As Toddler Attempts To Talk Like Him With Sign Language

Children are sponges, and they’re always learning from the world around them. Children love nothing more than to mimic and learn from their parents, and they’re always watching. You never really realize how much they pick up on, and then one day, they may surprise you with their newfound knowledge. For Jonathan and Christina from Sonora, Mexico, it was a heart-touching moment when their daughter attempted to speak in sign language with her deaf father. This video from 2019 will leave you feeling joyful as well.

According to the video's description, Christina and Jonathan, two deaf parents of a toddler named Maria, were touched when their little girl started tapping on Christian’s hand. The toddler fumbled with her hands for a moment before forming the sign for “bread”. It’s a simple sign, only tapping your fists together, but it was a big step.
Almost in tears, Christian asked her if she wanted to speak sign language. Just as other children will repeat the words they learn, she repeats, “Bread! Bread!”

Luckily, Maria’s attempt to communicate with her parents was caught on camera! It’s lovely, seeing Maria so eager to talk to her dad, and seeing Christian so excited that she’s trying to sign.
Maria has inspired Lucita to form a group to teach her community how to speak sign language.
Something as simple as a child wanting to speak to her parents has blossomed into a movement to help educate the public and break the stigma surrounding the Deaf community. Watch Maria’s video here:
