Cynthia Nixon, born on April 9, 1966, in New York City, is an actress, activist, and politician known for her multifaceted career and unwavering commitment to social issues.

Rising to prominence in the 1980s, Nixon gained widespread recognition for her portrayal of Miranda Hobbes in the iconic television series "Sex and the City," a role that earned her numerous accolades, including a Primetime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actress in a Comedy Series. Beyond her acting prowess, Nixon has been an outspoken advocate for LGBTQ+ rights, drawing from her experiences as a member of the community.

Her activism extends to various progressive causes, including education reform and women's rights, reflecting her deep-seated commitment to effecting positive change.

In 2018, Nixon announced her candidacy for Governor of New York. She ran as a Democrat on a platform centered on issues such as affordable housing, healthcare access and criminal justice reform. Though unsuccessful in her gubernatorial bid, Nixon's campaign sparked important conversations and brought attention to key issues facing New Yorkers.

Throughout her career, Nixon has demonstrated a fearless dedication to using her social and political activism platform, earning her widespread respect and admiration among New Yorkers and her fellow actors.

Nixon's activism is fueled by her passion for creating a better environment for her children. The actress is a mother to three beautiful children, one of whom is transgender. She has two children from her previous relationship with Danny Mozes and one child with her wife, Christine Marinoni.

Unbeknownst to many, Nixon was diagnosed with breast cancer in 2006 after discovering it through a routine mammography. She noted that her breast cancer diagnosis was way different than what her character's friend in "Sex and the City" experienced. In the iconic show, Nixon, who played the stern lawyer, Miranda Hobbes, was best friends with Carrie Bradshaw (Sarah Jessica Parker), Charlotte York (Kristin Davis), and Samantha Jones (Kim Cattrall). A key plotline for Cattrall's character in the show is when she is diagnosed with breast cancer and undergoes chemotherapy.

"I had a completely routine mammogram and there was just a little something that looked funny to them. And luckily, even though I was 40 at the time, luckily I had been getting mammograms since I was 35 because my mother had cancer twice and they said they wouldn't have thought anything of it it was so small, but it wasn't there on the previous years," she recalled to CBS News.

Nixon's relationship with her mother deepened because they fought the same fight. Despite everything, Nixon remained optimistic.

"This is not a death sentence," she affirmed. "This is a medical problem and luckily we have a lot of great things that can knock it out." She has since undergone a lumpectomy, six and a half weeks of radiation, and ongoing medication.

Nixon has since involved herself in various foundations to support other women with similar diagnoses. She convinced the head of NBC to air her special about breast cancer in a prime-time program and even became an ambassador for Susan G. Komen for the Cure

Aside from being a renowned actress and a passionate activist, Nixon is also a doting mother of three children. She gave birth to two kids from her ex-partner, photographer Mozes. In 2018, she revealed that her eldest child, Seph, is transgender.

"I'm so proud of my son Samuel Joseph Mozes (called Seph) who graduated college this month. I salute him and everyone else marking today's #TransDayofAction," she posted on Instagram.

Surprisingly, Nixon's activism is parallel to her parenting. She revealed in an interview on The View that her son had encouraged her to take a stand and call for a ceasefire in Gaza to end Israel's war against Palestine.

"I am the mother of two Jewish children whose grandparents are Holocaust survivors," she explained. "My oldest son, in particular, he really has been reaching out to my wife and I and asking us — imploring us, really — to say, 'Use your voice to affirm as loudly as you can that 'never again' means 'never again' for anyone.'"

Nixon's second child, Charles, is all grown up and is 21 years old already. In a photo Nixon shared on social media, Charles inherited her mother's sharp features and held a record player cake for his birthday at the time.

In 2004, Nixon revealed her relationship with education activist Marinoni, whom she married in 2012. The couple has a 13-year-old child, Max Ellington, who inherited Marinoni's stunning red hair.

On Instagram, Nixon shared an adorable video of little Max, whom she was surprised to have already entered his teenage phase.

"Can't believe my youngest 🐣 turned 13 this month! 🫢🎂❤️," she posted in February 2023.
