Crowd Can’t Get Enough Of 5 Navy Sailors Performing Hit Songs From ‘Jersey Boys’
Sep 26, 2023
Five sailors in the U.S. Navy banded together to create one of the most heartwarming musical groups. The band of sailors decided to call themselves the Sea Chanters. The 2014 Concert on the Avenue for the U.S. Navy Memorial at Memorial Plaza in Washington, D.C., was where the Sea Chanters performed and captivated all the spectators. Their performance included musical selections from the hit musical “Jersey Boys.”
According to the Navy Band website, the U.S. Navy Band began back in the late 1700s. The crew first began with two musicians, a fifer and a drummer, who served as Marines. Over the course of the following decades, the use of musicians in the Navy continued to expand. John H. Page was promoted to Master of the Band in 1826, and a seaman named William Tuton was promoted to the post of musician that same year.
In the 1900s, Navy bandmaster John Phillip Sousa formed a large band of 350 musicians that toured in major cities. And it seems like the rest is history, and members of the Navy continue to show off their musical talents. According to their events page, the group is still active.
At first, the audience didn’t know what to expect from the Sea Chanters. The Sea Chanters faced the audience with their backs before the song started. First, the orchestra played its melody, and it left the audience wondering what type of song they’d be singing. The band then started performing classic songs from the 1960s that enthralled the audience.

The YouTube account Grandad’s Oldies found the footage and posted it online in May 2020 for the world to see. The lovely inspiration behind the songs had everyone listening with rapt attention in some type of way as the Sea Chanters captivated the entire audience.
As the U.S. Navy group’s performance went on, the crowd began to dance and sing along to the iconic music from the musical “Jersey Boys.” The songs they performed included “Sherry,” “Big Girls Don’t Cry” and “Rag Doll (The Four Seasons Song).”
During some parts of each song, the Sea Chanters blended their voices in stunning harmony while they sang together. Each member of the band took turns in singing their own solos throughout the songs as well. It was a balanced and harmonious routine that surely uplifted the spirits of the attending Navy Seals and all the other attendees, too.
With so much work and responsibility protecting their country, it’s fortunate that several members of the U.S. Navy were able to sit back and watch a fun performance to unwind and recharge. The attendees were able to do just that, while their comrades and colleagues were able to do their part to entertain them during this recreational time!
Many people took to the comment section to express how much they enjoyed watching the performance. “Man these guys are good!!” one person said. “I just love these guys,” another agreed.
A third person chimed in, “Wow, now have all of the videos on repeat of these guys. Got me doing hand actions while singing along. My kinda music.”
