‘Criminal Minds’ Star Shemar Moore Delights Fans With TV Show Comeback Announcement

Shemar Moore is an actor best known for his work on television, including the series “The Young and the Restless,” “Criminal Minds” and “S.W.A.T.” He has been a notable star since the 1990s and has proven that his career can stand the test of time as he is still currently working as an accomplished actor. However, it’s evident that Moore never forgot his roots.

Moore was born on April 20, 1970, in Oakland, California. He moved to Denmark as an infant before moving again to Bahrain a few years later. He stayed there until he was 7 years old. After returning to the United States in 1977, Moore’s family relocated to a few places in California before Moore went on to attend high school. He was awarded an athletic scholarship to Santa Clara University in the state and played varsity baseball at the school for his entire time there. Moore graduated with a degree in communications and a minor in theater arts.

It’s not surprising to see that his love for the arts transpired into a full-time career as an actor. He went on to portray the role of Malcolm Winters on “The Young and the Restless” for over a decade, working on the show from 1994 to 2005. During much of this time, Moore was also the host of the series “Soul Train.” He then went on to find more work in the police procedural crime drama world.

However, in March 2023, Moore delighted fans by making a surprising announcement about his comeback to a popular TV show.

“The Young and the Restless” is a TV soap opera that has been on air since 1973. It has stayed quite popular with fans over the years and is even syndicated internationally. Moore joined the cast during the 1990s as Malcolm Winters, who was brothers with Neil Winters, played by Kristoff St. John. During this time, the show began receiving more diverse viewers.

Moore portrayed his role for over a decade, with most of the time working as a main character. However, in his later years with the show, he held a recurring status instead. Nonetheless, Moore was appreciated for his time on the series and received a Daytime Emmy Award for Outstanding Supporting Actor in a Drama Series in 2000.

Afterward, Moore went on to hold yet another long-lasting position on a TV series. He portrayed the role of Derek Morgan on “Criminal Minds” from 2005 to 2016. The series is popular with fans of police procedural crime dramas as it follows a group of criminal profilers in the FBI’s Behavioral Analysis Unit.

Moore quickly became adored by fans, especially with his charming nickname, “baby girl,” for his fellow onscreen star Penelope Garcia, played by Kirsten Vangsness. In fact, the nickname became so popular that Moore even used it to form a retail clothing company called Baby Girl LLC. The company’s profits go toward helping people fight multiple sclerosis, as it was a disease Moore’s mother had.

After leaving “Criminal Minds,” Moore joined the cast of the new CBS series “S.W.A.T.” He has been a central character on the show since 2017.

While many people were used to seeing Moore portray smooth-talking characters on TV, his love life has had its ups and downs. He dated Shawna Gordon, a soccer player, from 2014 to 2015. A few years later, he was linked to “Quantico” actress Anabelle Acosta. In January 2023, Moore announced that he and his girlfriend, Jesiree Dizon, were expecting their first child together. Their daughter was born later that month.

It seems like a lot has changed in Moore’s life over the years, but it’s clear that he never forgot what led him here. In March 2023, Moore took to Instagram to announce some exciting news for his long-time fans. He shared:

“Aaayyee!!! Ya Boy Malcolm Winters is coming back to @youngandrestlesscbs on Monday MAY 8th 😱👊🏽”

Fans were over-the-moon about the news and happily took to the comment section to rejoice with Moore. “Yes 🙌🏽 Malcom is back!” one person wrote. Another said, “I haven't watched it in years but I'm watching that day!”

According to PEOPLE, Moore was making a special appearance to help celebrate the 50th anniversary of “The Young and the Restless.” He last appeared on the show back in 2019 for a special tribute episode for St. John, who had suddenly passed in February of that year.

“Criminal Minds” fans were also hopeful that maybe Moore would return to more of his previous shows, including the police procedural drama. “Now can we get a Criminal Minds reprise or a SWAT / Criminal Minds crossover,” one person commented. Others agreed, with someone else adding, “Would love to see you back on criminal minds.”
