All you need is some rope, the ability to knot a lasso (or a YouTube video to show you how), and of course – a way to film it for the world to see!

Cowboy Jousting – yes, you’ve read it correctly – is the latest thing, so start practicing! Thanks to many demonstrations on YouTube, along with a tutorial on the Facebook page Vocativ, anyone can be a Jousting Cowboy.

How does it work? The video below can help you get the idea – just think of knights on horses in Medieval Times, with jousting poles. Then, you lose the horses. And the armor… and the long jousting stick. Oh, and maybe throw on a cowboy hat.

Two cowboys or girls, ready with lasso in hand, will stand at a face-off a few yards away from each other. At the sound of the shot – which, in this digital age, there is probably an app for – or whatever starting sound you choose, the two opponents will start running towards one another. When they pass each other, instead of knocking one another from a horse, they simply try to lasso the opponent.

If you both miss, simply try again! According the Vocativ tutorial and compilation video, one or both players may just end up flat on the ground, but with a game like this, everyone who is participating is having a good time – so we are really all winners, as long as nobody gets hurt! To be on the safe side, we recommend playing on a soft, grassy ground.
