Couple Buys Deteriorating Castle For $775K - A Look At Their Home

Aug 01, 2021

Buying a dream home can seem like a fairytale for many couples. It’s a chance to settle down and really start a life together. For Erin Choa and Jean-Baptiste Gois, they made their dreams a reality when they purchased a castle in Venée, France in 2018. They were both 31 at the time of their purchase. Even though buying a castle might seem like a real life fairytale, the couple had plenty of work ahead as the castle had been uninhabited since 1997, and was in desperate need for some renovations and touch-ups.

Choa and Gois fell in love with the castle known as the Château de Bourneau and have found constant surprises within the property since they purchased it for $775,000 in the summer of 2018. While many of the surprises have been good and full of wonder, the couple was also met with many challenges as the deteriorating property had many pieces that needed to be fixed.

After giving their new place of residence some much needed love and care, Choa and Gois went to work on making it as beautiful as possible. They have since documented the many hours of manual labor put into their home on social media. Fit for a king and queen, the French château has become Choa and Gois’ perfect place to reside alongside their adorable tabby cat. It is also available to be booked as a vacation rental. With plenty of history and an antique feel, the couple’s castle is now astonishing to view and is full of amazement.

What The Castle Looks Like Today

The Daily Mail reported that Choa and Gois had visited more than 10 properties and viewed hundreds more online before accidentally coming across the Château de Bourneau while driving past it. They immediately fell in love with it. They purchased the castle for $775,000, and got to work fixing it up. Choa and Gois typically spent around 14 hours a day working on fixing up their crumbling castle, as per the Daily Mail. The gorgeous castle needed some help, as it had been neglected for many years and had rotting window frames and a leaky moat, as well as a few leaks in the roof.

In a video from Channel 4 Lifestyle, it was evident just how much hard work and dedication the couple has put into making their new home and a true fairytale castle. They have had plenty of projects to tackle as they worked on making the château as stunning as possible, and even constructed the gate of the residence’s entrance themselves. Many hours of manual labor have gone into making the castle as gorgeous as it is today.

Full of beautiful photographs of the castle, Choa and Gois’ Instagram account dedicated to their home has become incredibly popular with many people, as the page now has over 68,000 followers. Various pictures show just how large the castle is. It has plenty of windows all over, filling each room with natural light. The property has a very regal feel to it as there are small towers on all four corners of the castle, and a grand entrance at the front of the estate.
