Company Pays Employees To Work Out On The Job To ‘Build A Strong Mind’
Jul 03, 2023
Having a full-time job on-site is hard as it requires people to be in the office for almost half of the day, leaving the other half for eating and rest. This is why it is also hard to incorporate workouts during weekdays.
However, a company called Nutrition Solutions has a very unique gimmick for their employees as they are getting paid extra if they exercise on the job.
According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention or CDC, having physical activity can improve not only your physical body but also your mental health. Workouts could also have a lot of perks like maintaining weight, reducing health risks, and many more.
Luckily for the workers of the meal-prep company, they earn extra money if they work out on the job.
CEO Chris Cavallini spoke in a May 2023 interview with CNBC, where he noted that each and every employee has the choice to attend free exercise classes before the actual workday starts. The workout routine for the company is being held every Wednesday and Friday.
The company head added that the additional pay for the employees works as a bonus, and it was added to their normal pay because they would log in ahead of their schedule for the day.
“If they come to those workouts, they are on the clock. They’re getting compensated whatever their pay rate is to be there,” Cavallini said.
Aside from the health and financial benefits of the gimmick, the CEO also explained that their supposed allotted time for working out after their day job would be out of the way so they could enjoy the rest of their day at home or do their personal goals.

It appears that Cavallini was inspired by his time in the military as he noted in the interview that he was paid to “train and stay fit.” He also saw how exercising made a significant difference in his life because it improved his discipline and physical fitness.
“I believe the key to living a strong life is having a strong mind. And I think in order to create and build a strong mind, you have to first build a strong body,” he told the outlet.
He also explained that it is a bigger mission for him why he started the program for the employees as he noted that his company wanted to “help our team develop resilience” and improve the way the workers respond to stress through challenging workouts.
The program first began in 2016, and it started with Cavallini and one other employee. As of 2023, the workout classes already have 40 people who have signed up to be a part of the program.
The CEO further discussed that making the program is an investment to the employees, and he would suggest other leaders to implement it because, in return, companies would have “a stronger, more disciplined, more energized team member.”
In a video posted by the company in 2022, online users got a glimpse of what the employees do during their workout routines, and it wasn't as easy as it looked.
Workers could be seen working out using different techniques such as squat box jump, sit-ups, stretching, and some of them also used equipment.
