Cocopallet: The New Inexpensive, Biodegradable And Sustainable Alternative To Wooden Shipping Pallets
Jan 02, 2019
170 million trees are cut down each and every year in order to make wooden pallets for shipping goods to and from Asia, alone. This isn't accounting for all the other industries and uses for wood pallets.
These wooden pallets are only good for single use, and once they are used to ship certain crates or other goods, they are either discarded or too broken and ruined to use again. The irony in using wood pallets for shipping goods to and from Asia is that there is a shortage of timber in Southeast Aisa.
Therefore, trees are cut down in foreign countries in order to make wooden pallets. Wood is harvested from Canada and New Zealand for use. One thing Southeast Asia has in abundance, however, are coconuts.
Recently, CocoPallet hit the shipping and receiving market. Cocopallet is a sustainable, inexpensive, biodegradable, and 100% wood-free alternative to wooden pallets. These new, innovative pallets are made from coconut waste and are just as strong as their wooden predecessors. Moreover, the pallets are insect-free, export-compliant, and easily stackable. The ease of transporting CocoPallets also helps reduce the carbon footprint left by mass transportation.

CocoPallet International is based in the Netherlands and set out exclusively to replace outdated, wooden pallets for transporting goods overseas. CocoPallets are 100% bio-based, replacing wood pallets and saving millions of trees from all over the world from widespread logging.
About 5 billion pallets made of wood are created every year, forcing the deforestation of around 500 million trees annually. Likewise, something like 7.4 billion coconuts are harvested worldwide, specifically for the contents inside. 85% of these coconuts' outer-most later, the hair husk or shell, is being discarded, either by burning, tossed into the oceans or thrown away and piled up to create a massive biohazard over time.
CocoPallet figured out a way to transform the hard, husk of the coconut into a functional pallet to replace those which prove to be ultimately harmful and obsolete in today's shipping and transportation industries.
CocoPallets are made of the hard shell of coconuts, but they are bound together in an equally environmentally friendly way. The lignin from coconuts is a specific polymer found in many different types of plants, deposited in the cell walls.
This compound is what makes certain plants rigid and woody in texture. By utilizing this natural adhesive, CocoPallet is able to avoid the use of toxic and expensive glues or synthetic resi
ns. Press wood pallets aren't as viable as an eco-friendly alternative to timber pallets because they are produced with these synthetic resins, making CocoPallet the best, environmentally friendly alternative to traditional wooden pallets made from timber.
As climate change and global warming become hot topics for debate amidst today's current political torrent, a heightened awareness of how we, as humans, affect the environment has come into light. Initiatives to create a healthier planet and ecosystem for our children have been launched all over the world, and CocoPallet is just one of many recent inventions that we can use to replace our current, wasteful products with.
The transportation of goods across the ocean is a huge contributor to pollution and climate change, but, by integrating environmentally friendly options like CocoPallet, we can drastically cut down on how much we affect our own home of planet Earth.
