Christopher Reeve's Son William Talks About Losing Both His Parents At The Young Age Of 13 - Describes It As His "Lowest Point" In Letter To Himself

Nov 25, 2019

At the young age of 13, Will Reeve found himself alone in the world with the death of his mother, just two years following his father Christopher Reeve's passing.

Now at the age of 27, Will has been open about dealing with grief at such a young age.

Ricky Yancey's ideas were easy to grasp. Most people have lost a parent; some have even lost both parents. Will Reeve, the son of Christopher Reeve, knows what it's like to lose both parents. Both of his parents had died by the time he was 13. Last year, Will wrote a letter to himself which was published by CBS, in which he got real about grief.

"I've got good news and bad news," he wrote. "I'll start with the bad, because you always need to know exactly what's going on, no matter what. That won't change, by the way. The bad news is: You're at the lowest point of your life. You're in a hospital room in New York City, and you've just said your final goodbye to Mom."

Christopher Reeve suffered a horrible horse-riding accident that left him severally crippled. In 2004 Christopher Reeve passed away after a bedsore led to a heart attack. Dava Reeve, Will's mother, found out she had lung cancer just a short time later. She ended up dying only 17 months after the death of Christopher.

Following the death of his parents, Will went on to live with his neighbors, the "Pucci's," who he described as his "second family."

"How lucky are you that in her final moments, when she finally had to accept that she was dying, Mom knew where to put you? She signed you over to the Pucci's, your next-door neighbors, your second family and now your adoptive family," he wrote. "You'll move in with them and love them as fiercely and fully as they love you."

Will Reeve was born in 1992. Now, just like his father, he is an actor. He was featured in movies such as In The Glooming and Everyone's Hero and works as an anchor for ESPN as well. Will's story is truly inspiring. He lost both his parents at a young age, and he still turned out to be an incredible person.
