Cheeky Bride Blows Dust Off Her Wedding Vows Before Reading Them To Groom After 15 Years Of Dating
Nov 16, 2022
Over time, more than one bride (or groom) has included in their vows some small wink to the sentiment of "you should have married me years ago." Whether it's an exasperatedly admitted "finally" or a long list of references to the couple's lengthy relationship, many newlyweds take the opportunity to joke about how long this day has been coming.
While there's no strict rule about how much time can pass before you pop the question (some wait mere months, some wait entire decades) there is the general trend that the question "they haven't asked you to marry them yet?" arises at some point after the first few years.
But sometimes the task gets away from you. Especially if you met perhaps as high school sweethearts, dated through college, began adult life together, got a dog, or whatever. The busy nature of modern life can postpone the big day given how couples can simply coexist without needing to adhere to social norms and spend a bunch of money on what their mother-in-law envisions. Together, they can build IKEA furniture and train their labradoodle to use one of those talking touchpads instead.
However, some brides do actually, eventually want to walk down the aisle. And a girl can only be so patient before they really start dropping hints.
One South Carolina couple finally made it to the big day after a staggering 15 years together. Then longtime boyfriend, Byron Jefferies, finally asked his girlfriend Christie to marry him. They set the date for Oct. 15, 2022.
Their ceremony took place at the School House Venue in Travelers Rest, where the bride worked a little humor into the vows she gave to the man she'd dated for such a long time.

In a viral TikTok, an eagle-eyed cameraman captured the couple preparing to read their vows. With Jeffries in a black tux and Christie in a stunning white gown, the video showed the moment when the cheeky bride made a subtle but hilarious reference to how long she'd been with her man.
As Christie unfolded the white paper on which she'd surely written all the tenderest words about their relationship, she first blew a visible layer of dust from the page. The audience erupted into laughter. Clearly, Christie had this little speech ready for some time. Her beaming groom watched the plume of dust with shock. However, Jeffries immediately recognized the humor he must have come to expect from his future wife. He smiled with the audience as the dust literally settled before turning back to his soon-to-be wife.
Having successfully pulled off her little prank, Christie also could not help but laugh. She giggled with the audience. The couple then shared a knowing look as Jeffries shook his head at Christie's antics. He seems to have been through at least 15 years of her jokes and perhaps that is why he finally asked Christie to marry him — so that they can share an entire lifetime of laughs together.
Jeffries then gave his beloved another knowing look. Both of them smiled, aware that Christie, undeterred by time, had waited for him to pop the question, as she jokingly already penned her vows. Perhaps even written them in the early days, having known from the start that this was the man she was meant to marry.
