Charlize Theron, Who Raises Her Son Jackson As A Girl, Opens Up About Her Parenting Style And Gets Praised For Her Approach

Oct 23, 2019

Actress Charlize Theron opened up about her parenting approach with her eldest adopted child, Jackson. The 7-year-old, who was born male, identified to his mother that he was a girl. Theron talked about the biggest things she likes to teach her kids as she raises them.

Theron contends she thought Jackson was a boy, too as she told The Daily Mail. "Until she looked at me when she was three years old and said: 'I am not a boy!" The now 7-year-old is now frequently spotted wearing dresses on outings with his mom.

"I have two beautiful daughters who, just like any parent, I want to protect and I want to see thrive," Theron said.

The Oscar-winner continued on her stance to let Jackson be exactly who he wants to be believing it doesn't matter how a child grows up. "'They were born who they are and exactly where in the world both of them get to find themselves as they grow up, and who they want to be, is not for me to decide."

"My job as a parent is to celebrate them and to love them and to make sure that they have everything they need in order to be what they want to be. And I will do everything in my power for my kids to have that right and to be protected within that."

Therapist Tanya Koifman praised the "Mad Max" star's approach said to Bravo TV:

"It is so wonderful when celebrities such as Charlize openly not only accept, but embrace, their child for who they are. When people see celebrities embracing their transgender, non-binary, and gender-nonconforming children, it sends the right message to the public, and it can help lead to greater visibility and acceptance, and hopefully a safer existence for transgender people.”
