Celine Dion's "Courage" Album Took A Historic Fall From Its No. 1 Spot On The Billboard 200 Chart

Dec 09, 2019

Only a week after placing No. 1 on the Billboard charts, Celine Dion's "Courage" album took a hard fall to the 111th spot. This tumble is one of the worst in Billboard's history. So what happened exactly and what other artists has this happened to?

Dion was just writing over Thanksgiving break about how she was grateful for her team who helped catapult "Courage" to No. 1 on the Billboard 200 chart. "I'm so grateful to the songwriters, the producers, the engineers, and the musicians, who shared their incredible talent with me," she wrote next to a picture of the Billboard headline.

"And thank you to my amazing fans for your incredible support. You’ll never know how much it means to me."

This was Dion's first English album since her husband and manager, René Angélil passed away in 2016.

However, after obtaining her first No.1 spot on the Billboard chart in 17 years, only a little more than a week later, the album collapsed falling to the 111th spot. Chart Data reports the fall is the biggest in history for an album debuting at #1.

According to Showbiz 411, sales plummeted 95% in the second week of the album. The reason why Dion's album hit number one on the Billboard chart is because the album sales were bundled with Dion's concert sale tickets. Meaning if you bought a concert ticket you also bought her album.

Madonna and Bon Jovi are just some other names whose albums dropped like rocks from No. 1. Released in June of this year, Madonna's "Madame X" album fell more than 70 spots. Bon Jovi's "This House Is Not For Sale" debuted in 2016 hit No.1 before falling to 169th before returning to No. 1 because of a concert ticket bundle.
