Jan 24, 2020

The smooth-voiced star Neil Diamond turns 79 years old today, and there are many things to celebrate proving "good times never seemed so good," for the septuagenarian singer.

With plenty of hits under his belt like "Sweet Caroline," "Cracklin" Rosie," and "Forever in Blue Jeans," Neil has become a household name. He was born January 24, 1941 and became a chart-topping songwriter in college, as per Biography.com, writing hits for other singers before he started his solo career. He wrote "I'm a Believer" for the Monkees and "Red Red Wine" for UB40.

He has stopped touring for health issues, being diagnosed with Parkinson’s in 2018, as per the BBC, but it didn’t stop him from recently leading a singalong in his native Brooklyn that his wife posted on Twitter last May.

In big news to celebrate his birthday, a teaser went out on his official Instagram with an image of a script for the "Untitled Neil Diamond Musical." The show had a private run-through last week and is set to debut on Broadway in 2021 reports the New York Post. It will tell the story of Neil's life from his start in Brooklyn through his rise to fame and two marriages.

His record label also tweeted out congratulations for his song "Sweet Caroline" being inducted into the 2020 Grammy Hall of Fame. According to Deborah Dugan, President/CEO of the Recording Academy, the song is joining a group of “timeless masterpieces” that “serve as a beacon of music excellence and diverse expression that will forever impact and inspire generations of creators.”
