Cat Finds Neighbor's Doorbell Camera At Night – Drops By To Say 'Hello'

There are many instances where new technology has brought joy to our lives without us realizing it. New doorbells that have fitted cameras and allow visitors on the other end of the camera to be filmed have said to be changing people’s lives.

In this case, a friendly black cat wanted to be a dutiful neighbor by visiting his neighbors every evening to say hello. We can’t seem to trace the origin of the video but we found it on the internet and loved it.

The glossy black cat can be seen jumping up on a chair that is positioned by the neighbor's front door. With this first task accomplished it takes a look around to take in its surroundings. Peering around a nearby window the kitty sees something new and exciting. The motion-detecting security camera is proudly on display. This cat looks like it even gives the area surrounding the camera a little lick! Maybe it is marking its territory.

Cats are notorious for being curious. We all know the old saying, “Curiosity killed the cat,” which is often meant that cats, due to their inquisitive nature, end up getting themselves into trouble. This cat, however, didn’t want to get up to mischief, it just wanted to make friends! This curious cat did choose an interesting time to make its visits.

Cats are nocturnal creatures by nature, which means they are more active at night than during the day.

Paws.org states, “In the wild, cats are most active at dawn and dusk—the most opportune times for hunting birds and rodents, respectively. To maintain the energy needed to successfully stalk and pounce, the average cat sleeps approximately 18 hours a day by taking multiple catnaps.”

The company that makes the doorbell security cameras, Ring, first shared the funny encounter on its YouTube channel in October this year. Ring was founded in 2013 and has grown rapidly, making it a leader in doorbell security cameras. Its official website states “Ring cameras provide on-demand live view and motion-detected recording, but not 24/7 recording.” This means that it would start recording when the motion sensor is detected — so when the adventurous feline triggers the sensor the camera captures its sweet little face looking in.

Once the motion detector is on, the screen shows the animal jumping on a chair by the front door. It even looks like it is looking for a friend as it turns its head around. We wonder what it's thinking and if it knows all its moves are being captured on camera. At one point it almost looks like the cat has spotted the camera and understands what it is. It moves back and stares at it apprehensively.

The recording ends with the cat retreats and lands with its feet on the window frame. It really does look like it wants to pay a visit to the people inside!

The footage has been received warmly by viewers, with some comments that said, “the cat wants to get his treats first before anyone else.” "I love the cat’s cute facial expression," another commenter said.

The video is accompanied by a caption which reads: "No Superstition Here! Neighborhood Cat Comes By To Say Hello Via Ring Video Doorbell." According to The Spruce Pets, black cats have long been associated with bad luck and death in some cultures.

“This fear of black cats appears to stem from medieval times when an animal with dark feathers or fur, including crows and ravens, signaled death. In 16th-century Italy, it was believed that death was imminent if a black cat would lay on someone's sickbed.”

Luckily for this feline, its owners clearly think it is a good luck omen instead, and took him in. The good news is that for other cultures black cats are symbolic of good luck! “In ancient Egypt, black cats were held in the highest esteem because they resembled Bastet, the cat-headed Egyptian goddess of home, fertility, and protection from disease,” states the website. According to the American Society for the Prevention of Cruelty to Animals (ASPCA) recent data indicates that the idea that black cats are adopted less frequently than cats of other colors is not true at all.

There have also been other instances with pets breaking into places they shouldn’t be. A student recently brought her cat into university as it apparently didn’t want to be left alone, reported Metro. The student claimed the cat — called Ba Dun — was giving her such sweet looks and was being quite clingy and needy all morning, so it didn’t feel right to leave him all by himself.

In the video, we can see the cute fluffy cat curled up inside the drawer of its owner’s desk. It watched her admiringly as she sat through her class — hopefully he wasn't too much of a distraction!
