Carson Daly Looks Miserable In Photo On ‘The Voice’ Set Without His ‘Buddy’ Blake Shelton
Jul 12, 2023
Blake Shelton and Gwen Stefani are one of the entertainment industry’s cutest couples. The pair met on the set of the popular singing competition show, “The Voice,” where they were both coaches and quickly developed a close friendship that eventually turned into romance.
Shelton is a country music singer and songwriter who has released numerous hit songs throughout his career, including “Austin,” “Some Beach” and “God’s Country.” He was also named People magazine’s “Sexiest Man Alive” in 2017. Stefani is a pop singer and songwriter who rose to fame in the 1990s as the lead singer of the rock band No Doubt and has also released several successful solo albums, including “Love. Angel. Music. Baby.” and “This Is What the Truth Feels Like.”
In 2021, the couple had their gorgeous wedding at Shelton’s Oklahoma ranch, which was officiated by none other than Carson Daly, the host of “The Voice.” Since then, the couple has been living in wedded bliss, and they’ve even occasionally performed together.
But while Shelton has happily made the shift to focusing more on his family life, fans have been left heartbroken as the accomplished coach left “The Voice” after a whopping 23 seasons. Although the coaches change almost every season, Shelton was the one coach who was on every single season up until the 23rd, which ended in May 2023.
And while fans might have taken the news to heart, it seems like no one has been more choked up than the show’s host, Daly. In July 2023, Daly uploaded a photo of himself back on set for the 24th season of “The Voice,” and it’s safe to say that he looked absolutely devastated to be there without his country music pal.
In an interview with Entertainment Tonight in 2022, Shelton shed light on his new life with his wife and music star, Stefani. The award-winning country star shared that he loves his music career, but some things were more important than work. And part of that work included the TV singing competition show “The Voice.”
“Look, I love music and I love ‘The Voice.’ I love all the cool things I get to do with my job, but those things all take a backseat now to Gwen and the kids and it’s just a new phase of my life,” Shelton said.
Shelton admitted he never saw his life taking the remarkable turn that it has. If he had to guess where his life would end up, he didn’t foresee Stefani in his big picture before he met her.
Shelton said that he loves his career, but he has entered a new phase of his life that looks different than any other he's previously had. Now, he is a doting stepfather to Stefani’s three sons, Kingston Rossdale, Zuma Rossdale and Apollo Rossdale, whom Stefani had with her first husband, Gavin Rossdale.
Shelton assured his fans that although he made plans to slow down, there would still be other projects to work on in the future. However, Shelton is confident that this next step in his life is bigger than him already. In an interview with People, the singer said:
"If I walked away from my career at this time, the only thing that I run the risk of is having regrets that I'm missing out on some more important things in life. For now, that's our kids. This isn't about me anymore and never will be again.”

On May 23, 2023, Daly posted a photo carousel of himself and Shelton over the years that showed off the friendship they formed from having worked on “The Voice” together. Daly wrote in the caption:
"Today’s just gonna be weird! No other way to put it. For over 12 years I’ve watched the cowboy do his thing on @nbcthevoice & we have laughed & had fun, literally the entire time. Thank you buddy! Enjoy your big red chair retirement, you’ve earned it! Now let’s go make a drink! (Bring some ice over from your room, they never gave me any😂) #OneMoreShow.”
“The Voice” geared up for its 24th season, which would feature returning coaches Niall Horan, John Legend and Stefani, as well as country megastar Reba McEntire. However, Daly couldn’t help but feel sad that his longtime cowboy friend wouldn’t be part of the series any longer.
Daly took to Instagram to post a photo of himself where he looked miserable as he worked on “The Voice” set without Shelton for the first season. He wrote:
“My first day ever shooting @nbcthevoice without @blakeshelton. We had a ritual of getting hair & makeup together for 23 seasons. I think I’m handling it well. Everything’s fine.”
Fans couldn’t help but feel the same and reminisced on the good times they had watching Shelton on the show. “Believe me all the fans feel the same 😢,” one person commented. Another said: “Ugh. It’ll never be ok! 😩🤍”
One fan even gave Daly some advice on how to move forward without his buddy: “Get an emotional support cardboard cutout!”
