Carbonation, Chemicals, and Calories - Experts Warn Us Once Again To Minimize Soft Drink Consumption In Recent Study

Soda, Pop, Cola, whatever you may call them, studies continue to show that soft drinks are dangerous. These carbonated devils are high in caffeine, sugar, chemical sweeteners, and are loaded with calories.
”The biggest danger is the calories, soda drinks are a significant contributor to the obesity epidemic,” says Dr. James Gerber, Associate Professor of Clinical Sciences at Western States Chiropractic College (WSCC) in Portland, Oregon, and an adjunct faculty personnel with the University of Bridgeport Nutrition Institute.

The New England Journal of Medicine published a study that gathered data on over 120,000 healthy men and women who increased their soft drink intake by 12-ounces per day. This study resulted in participants gaining on average 3.35 lbs with 1lb of that resulting from the extra intake. The participants were evaluated between 1986 to 2006 every four years examining their lifestyle and weight change. When discussing the study with Dr. Gerber and how soft drinks and weight gain coincide, he stated, “Liquid calories are easy to overdo compared to calories from solid food.”
Furthermore, Drs suggest there are connections between soft drinks and brittle bones. Linda K. Massey, Ph.D., RD, a professor of human nutrition at Washington State University, explained to WebMD that phosphorus can promote calcium loss. Although claims say there is not enough research on the topic, experts argue that due to the high phosphoric acid content in these beverages, they can rob your bones of calcium. They also suggest that the high caffeine intake is linked to osteoporosis and have found that soda consumption drastically decreases BMD in women.
Dr. Gerber shared his concern with soda consumption recommending that they not be consumed at all and if they were, to restrict intake to only an 8oz serving a day supported by a healthy lifestyle.
The American Journal of Clinical Nutrition published a study, which found women who consumed two servings of soda a day were at a 40% higher risk of heart attacks and heart disease compared to women who did not. Other studies have shown links to diabetes and other serious diseases.
Although we don't make any claims, the numbers are frightening and speak for themselves. They vividly show soda does not aid in a healthy lifestyle and seems to be a not so silent killer. There are so many healthier options out there today, which include ways to carbonate juices and water naturally.
In reality, nature has your back, and H2O is all you really need. Make sure you are getting your proper daily dose to assist in flushing out all those other unknown chemicals you may be susceptible to as well.
