Bride Criticized For Creating Her Own Wedding Cake 12 Hours Before Ceremony

Jul 06, 2023

Weddings are expensive. Anyone who has been a part of one or has been a bride or groom knows that. According to Nerd Wallet, the average wedding cost runs a couple nearly $30,000. That cost also grows nearly every year too. One bride decided she wanted to take matters into her own hands when it came to cutting wedding costs.

One bride named Laura decided to step into a role that most brides would have left to a paid professional. She decided to create and bake her dream wedding cake all on her own. The bride documented the whole baking and decorating process on her TikTok. TikTok is the platform that allows internet users to record, edit and create videos of all types for the world to see. The bride purchased five boxes of Betty Crocker cake mix and began to get to work. After baking several round cakes, she froze the dessert until less than 24 hours before her big day.

Most brides spend the night before their wedding relaxing; this bride spent her last hours as a single woman frosting her homemade wedding cake. After frosting the many-tiered layers of her cake, it was time for the final touches. Laura covered her frosted cake in multi-colored sprinkles and added a sign to the very top that read,” The Saxes.”

Since the bride had her whole baking journey documented from start to finish, the internet had quite a few things to say. The bride’s TikTok video has over 338,000 likes and over 3.9 million views.

Throughout the TikTok video, the bride admitted that creating a wedding cake the night before her wedding wasn’t the best idea she’s ever had. She admitted that she “never iced a cake in my life,” while playing the role of a wedding cake decorator.

When the tiered sprinkle cake was complete, Laura stood back and admired her work. "There it is! So cute," the bride said in her video.

Her video, which has millions of views and thousands of comments, left the internet with a lot to say. The official TikTok account of Betty Crocker commented, “How beautiful! You rocked it! 🥰”

One TikTok user commented, “Is this a joke 😅😅 because looks like more for birthday.” Another said, “I can hear your guest judging.” Another person added, “Yeah that’s a no.”

Aside from mean comments, there were plenty of encouraging comments too. One kind internet user wrote, “People are so mean. I can’t remember anyone’s cake at weddings I’ve been to. If you’re happy with it, that’s all that matters. Its your day! Congrats!”

Another TikTok user wrote, “Some of these comments need to chill. it’s her wedding, she can have whatever type of cake she wants. I think it’s cute and unique!”

One user admitted that Laura’s cake probably tasted better than some professional wedding cakes because of the fondant! Fondant icing is an icing that is made to coat cakes and other baked goods. “Guarantee it tastes 100% better than every dry, dense, fondant covered “professional” wedding cake I’ve ever eaten,” they wrote on Laura’s video.

Despite mixed reviews on the internet, bride Laura ended up being more than happy with her end product.
